Toys and Games Reviews of ThinkFun ZingoCustomer Review: Good family fun, educational Summary: 4 Stars
Bought this for my niece (5yrs old). She absolutely loves it and plays with her younger 3 yr. old brother. She is very quick to call out and pick up the matching images/ pieces so almost always wins but her brother though he does not speak as clearly as she does, is very good at recognizing matching images and picking them up. It's also a good way to encourage his speech because we tell him he has to call the name before he picks up the piece and he does. Good overall family fun! High marks for this one and even the adults join in to increase number of players. Zingo boards seem to be susceptible to wearing down quickly so maybe future versions would be best served being made from hard plastic and not cardboard. Also picture pieces can get lost easily but that's just about the case with any game with pieces so no big deal here.
Customer Review: So fun! Summary: 5 Stars
My [...] has been very antsy waiting for Christmas. The day long requests to "put up more Christmas dec'rations" and "please we wrap more presents" are cute, but a little exhausting, so I broke out the Zingo a bit early. She loves it, and miraculously, so do I! At 3 years, 2 months, she had no trouble mastering the game, and she wins quite often. I had previously purchased Candyland Castle to give her for Christmas, but it seems a bit redundant. Thinkfun's version of the same concept seems superior to me - both more challenging and more educational. My daughter has begun pointing out the letters on the picture tiles, so this game is really reinforcing her pre-reading skills. I've been really impressed with how quickly she can assess whether she needs a given tile. I think Candyland Castle will go live at Grandma's house.
Customer Review: Great game for 4 year olds! Summary: 5 Stars
We received this game for our three year daughter for Christmas, and immediately it was a huge hit! It's based on Bingo, but is more appropriate for younger kids. My daughter caught on right away without any trouble and was able to play without assistance. She now asks for it all the time, and when we play and she wins, she does the "Zingo dance" (jumping up and down and yelling 'Zingo! Zingo! Zingo!).
We have also used this as a starting place for recognizing words. She is already interested in learning to read, and since this has both picture and word for each space on the cards, we are jump starting some basic word recognition.
I highly recommend this game for younger kids (age 4-5). I would think that it would not be as much fun for an 8 year old (as recommended by the box.)
Customer Review: Great for little Ones! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great game for mainly 4 year olds. It's a variation on Bingo. Each player gets a card and needs to match the plastic game cards to shapes. There's a sliding device to distribute the cards that children love to use. It also keeps the pieces very organized which is nice for the parents. It has become a staple when I have to give a gift for that age group. Families always love it! The only drawback is that because kids' abilities advance so much at that age, the child might get bored with it after a while and need something more challenging. I am hoping that the company starts coming out with a letter or number Zingo... Most children that age just enjoy being able to play a game with their parent or a friend without the frustration of it being above their heads. This game is wonderful for that!
Customer Review: fun & educational Summary: 5 Stars
My 4 yr old son received this game as a gift and he loves it. Basically it is Bingo with a twist, focusing more on sight words / images that kids can recognize. He loves playing with it, hands out the scorecards to anyone in our home who is willing to play.
What amazes me, though, is that my 20 month old daughter also loves this game and she has learned so many words from it that we wouldn't think to teach her. For instance, "ghost" "worm" "bug" "house". She recognizes them, says them (without prompting) and then matches them on her scorecard. I'm not saying this to tout my kid -- not at all, but because this has become a wonderful learning game for her.
The version of the game I have is actually by Discovery Toys, but I'm pretty sure its the same as this version by ThinkFun.
