Toys and Games Reviews of ThinkFun Zingo

Customer Review: Great game for growing minds
Summary: 5 Stars

My 3.5 year old son has not really shown a great deal of interest in reading books. He doesn't have the patience to sit and draw for more than 10 minutes. Even play dough won't keep his attention for long. I truly believed that this game would be no different, and that he would be off playing with something else once the game got underway. How wrong I was!

Since the very first day we opened the box, he has been engrossed in this game, and wants to play it all the time. He's surprisingly good at it too, and my husband and I sometimes have a hard time beating him. We thought we'd have to hold back and let him win, but he can win all on his own.

We have been anxiously awaiting the day when we could all sit down as a family and play a game together, and I am thrilled to find one that can hold his attention.

The game is very well made, and seems rugged and durable for rough-housing.

Customer Review: Really great idea that could be even better.
Summary: 4 Stars

I have a four year old and a six year old and they love to play this game. They get to match words with little pictures which is a great way to get them interested in reading and spelling. Also, the game has repeat play appeal. We played yesterday and the kids loved it, and they want to play it again tonight.

One minor inconvenience is that it does take a few minutes to reload the dispenser of yellow plastic word/picture pieces, but my sons happen to love reloading the little dispenser, so that actually makes it even more fun for them. Your milage may vary in this area.

That said, as I play with my kids I find myself wondering why there couldn't be several difficulty gradiated sets of words and cards. It would be more fun for me as adult if there was more variation in the cards and the words in play.

But the game is a lot of fun, and the price is right!

Customer Review: Fun Learning!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 5 yr old requested this for Christmas. I wasn't sure about it because usually we end up losing small pieces but I decided to try it anyway. He loved it, and begged everyone to play with him. I play it with him often becasue it's teaching him to read the words and well as associate the word with the picture and also helps him to sharpen his reflexes and memory since you have to shout out what you need before the other player or you lose it to them. It is also teaching him that he can't win everytime because you can't control what chip will come up first. The pieces can be stored in the "dealer" and the cards are thick and durable, not easily torn or lost. We love this game and it's played a lot in our home. We adjusted some of the rules to fit our five year old but overall it's a fun and easy game and kids will enjoy it while hopefully learning. I have no complaints with this game!

Customer Review: Simple & Fun for Families with Young Kids
Summary: 5 Stars

We got this for our almost 4-year-old for Christmas. It has been used more than any other gift we gave her. She wants to play it every night. We have used it as a teaching tool to learn how to play with others, how to concentrate and pay attention to the next set of "cards" and to react quickly, how to be a good loser and a good winner, and how to quit playing without throwing a fit. My son, age 2, is learning to match the pictures up and say the words. He does much better than I thought at his age, but he isn't as interested in sitting for long periods. I know he'll love it when he gets a little older. My husband and I are not game people, but we can tolerate this one. We can play about 3 games in 15 minutes, so that's not too much to ask. :) I can also play it alone with my daughter: I "deal" and play a card at the same time. Highly recommended!

Customer Review: Zingo is fun!
Summary: 4 Stars

My 3 1/2 year old son loves Zingo. All you do is make sure all the yellow tiles are in the holder facing the right way and you push the slider and pull it back and instantly, there are two tiles showing. The first person to claim the tile for their board, gets it. I love the fact that there is two sides to the very durable boards. One is for younger children, which is less competitive than the other side. The object is to claim the tiles that match on your bingo board as soon as you can. For younger children, it takes them a bit longer to find the matching picture, so on the easier side, there aren't very many of the same pictures on the boards, therefore, even if it takes them a little while to see it, at least the other player didn't snag it from them. It gives the little ones a chance to win even if they are playing with an older child. Love it!!!
