Customer Review: One of the best puzzles of all time.

This is an excellent puzzle, that under various forms and names has been around for a long time.It was invented by Piet Hein (1906-1996) in 1936.He was one of the greatest designers of puzzles of the 20th Century.He was a Danish Scientist,Mathematician,Inventor,Designer,Author and Poet.One of his favorite quotes was,"The road to wisdom? Well,it's plain and simple to express: Err and err again but less and less and less." It is generally sold as a Soma Cube.It consists of 27 cubes that when assembled results in a cube 3 X 3 x 3 cubes.The 27 cubes are put together in 6 different configurations of 4 cubes and 1 configuration of 3 cubes ,totalling 27.
The challenge is to take these 7 configurations and assemble them in a large cube 3 X 3 X 3 cubes.It must be noted that there are many ways to do this; and this is the general solution of this puzzle.
What is different with this product is that it comes with a set of 60 cards,each being another challence or shape to construct.Just in case you get stuck,solutions are provided on the back of the cards.
This is a puzzle that will solvable by young as well as adults.It is simple to learn what is to be done and anyone who gets tempted with a puzzle,will readily try to "do it".That is what I call a great puzzle and worthy of the name a classic.By the way, this product by Thinkfun was previously sold under the name of Binary Arts.

Grades 2 & up. There are only seven pieces in this puzzle, so it should be easy. Right? Guess again! Sixty puzzle cards show 60 three-dimensional structures for players to replicate using the seven pieces. Each of the pieces, based on three or four connected cubes, is unique. One is an L shape, another a T, and they get more complicated from there. If a player is stumped and can't figure out how to build the Long Wall, the Snake, or the Bad Dog, there are helpful clues on the back of the cards. Players also can use the pieces to invent their own structures. Originally known as the Soma Cube, Block by Block is an excellent way to develop and refine spatial perception skills.
