Toys and Games Reviews of Cat in the Hat I Can Do That! Game

Customer Review: Great concept, could use improvements, not the right age group
Summary: 3 Stars

My 4yr old son recently got this game as a birthday gift. The concept for this game has a lot of potential, the makers just failed to realize all of it. The pieces are a bit flimsy and there are not enough cards. We played with three people and we went through all the cards really fast. Even though the cards get mixed and matched each time, there are not enough to give the game any real variety. We played the game twice in a row the first time and my 8yr old complained that several times the same person was drawing the same combination they did the game before. I think the ages for this game would be better for 3-5 yr olds than for those 4-8. I am going to make up my own cards to add to the mix which will save this game for our family. Without them I think it will get old really quick.

Customer Review: A Fun Game
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this as a gift for my 4 year old daughter, a year later she still enjoys it. This game is a different variety from your typical board game, making a good addition to your board game collection. The pieces are somewhat flimsy in that they bend and fold easily, but they are made of strong enough foam and plastic that barring complete misuse they will last as long as you want them too. The game play is involved and silly and your child enjoys performing their task as well as watching you and other players have to perform a given task. The pictures on the cards describing what task you must complete are well thought out and become easy for a child to figure out with slight repetition without knowing how to read them. Overall this was a fun purchase that I am happy to have made.

Customer Review: Great game for young kids!
Summary: 4 Stars

Bought this for Christmas for a five year-old and we played it the next day - what a blast! His seven year-old brother joined in and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! They got such a kick out of trying to do the activities described on the cards and were very eager to see what task their three cards would require them to do.

The only real problem is that we quickly went through all the cards. It took them awhile longer than it did me to notice that, but eventually even they caught on to the fact that we were clearly recycling cards and tasks.

If there were a booster pack to with additional cards this game would be an A+! As is, it's at least an A-. Very good, very fun, and it was certainly great for getting the kids moving around!

Customer Review: Cute, but not great
Summary: 3 Stars

I agree with the other reviewers, that this game has a cute concept, but it's not executed too well. I like the playful and colorful look of it, that it gets the kids up and moving, and that it ties in to a great classic kids book. But the "trick-a-ma-stick" is hard to assemble, and falls apart easily. It's made of a thin "pool noodle" material held together with plastic brackets, and my kids (age 3 and 6) can't assemble it themselves, and get annoyed when it keeps toppling over. I also agree with other reviewers that there should be more variety in the activity cards - the game does get a little tiresome. Seems to me they cheaped out on this game a bit. But isn't that how most toys are these days? So disappointing.

Customer Review: Fun for kids of different ages and educational for autistic kids
Summary: 5 Stars

My boys, 8 and 4, had a good time playing together with mom. It is hard for us to find games everyone can enjoy equally. I think they especially enjoyed seeming their parents act in a silly way. As a side note, my four year old is high-functioning, autistic spectrum, and this was a great way for us to teach him directions (step 1, step 2, etc.), prepositions (under, over, around), and taking turns. He immediately understood the game and was proud to be successful. The eight year old was a little boy again for the duration of the game. Can't really ask any more from a game than that! Finally, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. The foam pieces were able to take a bit of crumpling without being unusable.
