Toys and Games Reviews of The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition with Blue Eyed North Pole Pixie-ElfCustomer Review: Can we say "Big Brother is watching"? Summary: 2 Stars
I received this book as a gift and am sad to say how creepy this book/toy is. The elf itself looks like something out of a horror movie...and I'm supposed to let it hang out in my house?! The book has beautiful illustrations, but the story is something else. This elf is supposed to spy on your kids no matter where they are, noting whether they have been good or bad, and report back to Santa. I believe that this is infringing on their rights to be kids. So what if they're bad once in a while...they're kids! Kids make mistakes and PARENTS should be the ones to teach them this, NOT some little toy! I'm all for traditions like Santa, but can do without the elf on the shelf.
Customer Review: Fun times with the elf Summary: 5 Stars
We really enjoyed introducing the elf on the shelf to our sons this year. They are reaching the age where they are starting to question whether there really is a Santa Claus and this helped me to continue to convince them to believe. The boys had a great time every morning looking for the new landing place and since I would often "go to bed" before them while we were on Christmas vacation they just knew I couldn't have anything to do with the new spot and they would ask me every morning if I had found "Fred" and then they would patiently wait and sometimes give me clues to where he had landed. Lots of fun with this product for adults and children alike.

Ok, I hate to say this but this toy is NOT meant to be a "big brother" and an infringement on children's right. Are you kidding? It's a story and a doll. Just like any other legend or story. My children Love, love LOVE this holiday tradition. It isnt really meant to force a child to behave - it's meant to pour a little more magic into Christmas. This isnt any different than telling a child that if they misbehave that Santa will give them coal. Seriously, parents need to lighten up. There is nothing more priceless than seeing your child eager to wake up and find where the elf is hidden next. Take the politics away from the tradition, please.
Customer Review: Awesome book & new family traditon! We love it! Summary: 5 Stars
We love our Elf on the Shelf. We named our Elf, Eddie. My daughter (she is 4) talks to him every time she passes him.. :-) I recommend this NEW family tradition to all parents with young children. It helps encourage good behavior because the elf is always watching to report back to Santa. My daughter even asked about Eddie this summer (we started it last Thanksgiving) we told her he was busy at the North Pole but checked back so she better be good never know when Eddie is hiding and watching. (LOL) She at times would see children out pitching fits and would say I bet their elf is going to tell Santa. WE LOVE ELF ON THE SHELF!!
Customer Review: The best idea ever! Summary: 5 Stars
I just got The Elf on The Shelf this year and have been using it for 4 days now. My son decided to name him "Helper" and he has been a very welcome addition to our family. I love the story behind the Elf, and the magic powers he has, and I think this will be a very fun family tradition to start with my boys. If my son isn't listening to me, all I have to do is call out "Helper" and he stops what he is doing (and shouldn't be doing) immediately. My son is so excited in the morning to see where his elf has landed from his trip to the North Pole, and we make it a fun family adventure each morning trying to find him. I love this idea!!
