Someone told me about Elf on a Shelf earlier this year knowing how into Christmas I am! This is a wonderful idea for parents who want to create a running dialogue with their kids about Christmas and all that goes into it.
The book included with the elf tells the story of how Santa knows whether a child is naughty or nice by sending an elf to their home to report back to him each night. As a parent you can put the Elf somewhere and then your kids can play hide and seek to find him. They can also tell the Elf what they want for Christmas and how they would like Christmas to play out.
It is easy to put a faith based element into your play and story as well as any other customs you may want to impart. The Elf makes the anticipation for Christmas more keen and kids enjoy playing hide and seek as well as talking to the Elf.

I heard about this "elf on the shelf" from a co-worker. I have a 4 yo and thought he would really like this. After reading up about this elf I decided to buy it for him. He loved getting the package from "Santa" and having Santa send his elf. The book is a joy to read and your child gets to name the elf. My son loves the story, we read it every night. I only wish I would have bought this sooner! It comes in a great package for year round storage. My son eagerly wakes up each morning looking for the elf (just don't forget to move it). I also like in the book how you can write your family's name in it and the date you started this tradition. I would highly recommend this elf on a shelf to anyone who has small children it really gets them excited about Santa and it's a great Christmas tradition!!Customer Review: Watch Imagination Come To Life

I purchased this book set for my grandchild by just listening to other friends that had already purchased it. The laughter they were experiencing just by telling what their children were doing as they: looked for the elf every morning, whispered their Christmas wishes to it, and to the names that each one had been given. My granddaughter has had Frisky for 3 days and squeels with delight when she finds him! Of course my grandaughter is smarter than her parents, and when they tell her that Frisky is watching her, she just says Yes, and he's gonna go the the North Pole tonight and tell Santa that ya'll are being mean to me!Please get this for your child and make new cherished memories. I heard so many things about the Elf on the Shelf. So I searched but many stores didnt carry it so I found it on Amazon. Just received my package around Thanksgiving. My boys (5 and 7) were so excited they couldnt wait for me to open. They love it. I read them the story under our tree and then we named and registered our Elf with the North Pole. This is a great family tradition that we will have each year and look forward to it. My boys get so excited each morning to go and find our Ziggy and their behavior has been much better because they no Ziggy is watching them and will report to Santa. My husband and I enjoy hiding him each night. Anyone looking to start a family tradition that all can enjoy each holiday season should definitely buy the Elf on the Shelf.Customer Review: GREAT gift for the little ones!

SO cute. The kids grandma got this for them, they are 4 and almost 2. Such a wonderful tradition to start! You can go to the website [...] and do loads of great stuff like register your elf, check out Santa's village, go see the reindeer, make a cookie for Santa, decorate a tree- so much fun!!! Buy this- it is a tradition that I see our family doing for the next 50 years. You are never too old for it. The searching for the elf in the morning is the best for the kids, and the hiding the elf the night before as the parent is fun too! My only suggestion- the book talks about your kids being naughty and that it will be reported to Santa- I just told them that the elf would tell Santa how good you are doing, just trying to focus on the positive! :)
