Toys and Games Reviews of The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition with Blue Eyed North Pole Pixie-ElfCustomer Review: Awesome Christmas Tradition Summary: 5 Stars
I learned of the Elf on the Shelf from a co-worker, thought it sounded cute so I ordered it for my grandchildren. They were amazed at the story and that the elf "chose them". First thing they did every morning was locate the elf's choice of location for the day, they shared their thoughts with the elf daily. The elf was gone Christmas morning, but they still talk of the elf's "magic" and they can't wait until next Holiday when the elf returns. This is a great Christmas tradition, I highly recommend it for anyone with toddlers.
Customer Review: Great idea, not-so-great product Summary: 2 Stars
The idea of the elf on the shelf is fabulous, and I have no problem with the author profiting from her great idea. That said, the book is very mediocre and definitely not worth the money. The elf itself, however, is better than getting an older knee-hugger elf and just going with the great idea (which was what I originally intended to do). I think the author should just sell the elves (with much less packaging) and a small brochure telling parents how to promote the idea, skip the book for kids, and reduce the price by $5.
Customer Review: Great idea, but just buy an elf Summary: 3 Stars
Our 3-year-old has fun locating the elf each morning, which is great. And this product introduced our family to the idea of "hiding" a Christmas elf, the idea being the elf watches over the children throughout the day, reports back to Santa at night, and then shows up in a new spot each morning. But, I'd suggest buying a small elf and telling the story to your child. Kudos to the independent publishers who created this product, but the book, itself, isn't that compelling -- average writing and illustrations.
Customer Review: My 3 year old is scared of it Summary: 3 Stars
As soon as we opened the box, my 3 year old daughter said it was scary. I decided to let her warm up to it so I just put it on the mantle and read her the book. When I was done, she said she didn't like the elf and asked me if it could go to Santa's house and not come back here. I think it's a really cute idea, but maybe if the elf doll was a little...cuter looking(?) it would work better. That or she just doesn't like the idea of a doll watching her all the time, not sure I blame her on that one.
Customer Review: Kids and parents will enjoy the Elf Summary: 5 Stars
My husband had been told about the elf on the shelf at work and we knew that we just had to get one for our kids (3 and 6). As soon as he arrived we read the book to them and they were and are beyond excited about Zack (that is what they named him). Each morning it was a race to get downstairs to see where Zack would be.
The Elf on the Shelf is also a great tool to keep the kids inline, they know that he is watching everything that they do and reporting to Santa so they must be good.
