Toys and Games Reviews of Jaw Harp

Customer Review: Had to modify mine to get it to work
Summary: 4 Stars

I hope this helps those having trouble:
My harp was nearly silent no matter how hard I tried to get a nice sound out of it. I played one as a kid so I knew how it was supposed to work and sound.
It turns out that the gap between the prongs was way too wide. I put the harp in a vice and squeezed it down so that the tongue (twanger) had just enough room to vibrate without hitting the arms/prongs (rougly a 1mm gap on either side). Now it sounds really great. If yours is quiet, maybe give this a try before throwing it away - good luck!

Customer Review: Low quality
Summary: 2 Stars

I was interested in purchasing a second jaw-harp as a gift. The one I own was purchased elsewhere and has been very entertaining and even useful as an ice-breaker. The jaw-harp advertised by Musical Toys (shipped and sold by XUMP Science Toys) was however of poor quality and did not work as well as the one I currently play. I returned this particular jaw-harp and will look elsewhere for a higher quality instrument.

Customer Review: jaw harp
Summary: 1 Stars

Does not work. Do not buy. If you want a musical instrument and see it packaged as a toy, then buy a musical instrument. WIll not make this mistake again. And I appreciate that people are saying use a vice and squash the arms in a bit, but one shouldn't have to do this, it should work, full stop. Extremely disappointing - especially when expectant, excited children are concerned.

Customer Review: Get your vice ready!!
Summary: 2 Stars

Most likely you'll receive this product and it will not work. Previously mentioned by R.Register below, YOU WILL NEED TO BEND THIS PIECE in a vice until the "twanger" has about 1mm of room to vibrate between the two ends. When adjusted correctly, and it's not hard to do, the harp seems to work fine.

Customer Review: Flecks of metal, yay
Summary: 1 Stars

Tongue doesn't vibrate too well, and hard to get a sound out of. Also, when I began playing it, flecks of metal flake came off from the tongue. The box says ages 8 or above. Really?! Skip this. I'm going to be buying a different one that hopefully works better. What a waste of time and money.
