Toys and Games Reviews of Summit Zillions Deluxe ATMCustomer Review: BEWARE of BAD COLOR SUBSTITUTIONS - PINK!!! Summary: 1 Stars
I was totally ok with "colors may vary" because I assumed that they would be reasonable substitutions that would be fairly gender neutral. I didn't really care if it was red or green or gray, etc. Apparently I was wrong in thinking that they would be reasonable. Ours arrived as bright PINK! I'm pretty sure that my son will not want a bright pink ATM. Give me a break!
Let's be reasonable here. I feel a bit betrayed. I realize this is fulfilled through Amazon but it is from a 3rd party but this is not how Amazon normally operates. I expect better out of you Amazon. We've purchased a ton of things through Amazon and have never had a problem like this. This feels like bait and switch a bit to me. If pink is a possibility then you should show a picture of that somewhere. You should give people the opportunity to select gender or something to avoid this problem.
Believe me, I'm not one of those girls must only play with girl toys and boy must only play with boy toys type of person. My son plays with some "traditionally" girl toys and my daughter plays with some "traditionally" boy toys. I just can't expect him to have a hot pink ATM sitting on his dresser.
I have already submitted the request to return it. I'm very disappointed in Amazon at this point. Hopefully they will at least handle the return graciously.
Customer Review: Many Faults. Frustrated kid! Summary: 1 Stars
My son was bugging me (and Santa) for this ATM and against my better judgement, Santa popped it under the tree. The thing operates OK, I guess. There are problems though. It's a little clumsy to get the money into it and getting it to register the amounts accurately... the kid has to type in the $$ value himself and then press ENTER _after_ he has already put money in. If he forgets, it doesn't register the amount. The total saved in the drawer is off. Also, bills get clogged up in the right side of the drawer. You have to manually open it up and fold the cash, shove it to the left side and close it again... until the next clog. My son further screwed up the amount of total deposits by occasionally removing cash and then forgetting to manually enter how much is being withdrawn. So, as a bank, this stinks. As a teaching tool to accurately teach a kid how to track the money he is saving, it stinks. He still likes it, but I have noticed it sitting by its lonely the last week or so after Xmas. A "deluxe" unit should actually count the cash automatically (at least the coins, c'mon!). I can see having to enter in a cash value if the bill isn't a 1 dollar note, but coins??!
Customer Review: Great idea, poor execution Summary: 2 Stars
For the most part, other reviewers are correct - it is fun and the kids are wowed at first. They all loved it when they first got theirs and enjoyed using it a lot for a while. But eventually the poor design of the door gets really bothersome.
The door hinges on the bottom which at first seems OK. However, when withdrawing money, if there is any significant number of coins in the bank at all, several are bound to get caught in the hinge. Then you are stuck prying them out or the door popping off the hinge entirely. Then you have to lay the thing on its back and drop all the coins back in, re-attach the door, close the door and then stand it back up again. If we had ours mounted to the wall (which is an option) it would be an even worse pain having to constantly take if off the wall.
Of the three we had, the oldest eventually stopped allowing withdrawls and would revert to asking for the PIN when you the withdrawl button. And for the other two, As often as our kids wanted to open theirs and count their money, these just weren't worth keeping. Ours went up for sale on craigslist.
Customer Review: Lots of fun & great way to teach kids about banking Summary: 4 Stars
My 6 and 8 year old boys each have one. The ATM works well and they really enjoy them. It's also a great way to teach younger kids the concept of an bank account/ATM - that you can only get out what you put in and the bank isn't just some bottomless cash pit. Quality is pretty good for the price. For younger kids, it seems a little too tedious to enter deposit amounts (for each bill) and withdrawal amounts so ours have never been able to accurately track how much is in it. Plus there's no way for them to track how many Reece's or Hershey bars are stashed away in it. But they do enjoy making deposits and withdrawals and counting how much they have in it. One word of advice - watch out for your credit cards. Both my sons promptly lost the fake cards that comes with it and you need to insert a credit card in the slot to activate the ATM. So when my Amex went missing, it didn't take long to figure out where it was.
If you forget the PIN, you can reset it to 1234 by taking out the batteries. To reprogram your own PIN, enter the current PIN+ENTER, then press ENTER twice more, then the new PIN+ENTER.
Customer Review: Colors may Vary Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this item for my daughter for xmas. The item arrived on time but was packaged completely differently than how is was displayed on the web page. It was stuffed in a plastic bag that was then stuff in a cheap cardboard box. It was not packaged in that hard plastic wrap as displayed on the web page. Never the less, it was fine. The unit I got was PINK. So when Amazon says colors may vary they mean it. Luckily is was for a girl so no big deal for me. The unit itself is pretty solid. It works as described. It only came with one ATM card. I would have been nice if it came with more than just one. The money is sucked in and dumped into the storage bin at the bottom of the unit. The computer automoatically counts coins but paper money you have to enter in the amount you are depositing. It seems to be working well and my daughter enjoying it. It helps her learn to count and to save money. Overall I think this is a solid product.
