This holder is nice and heavy--has a good 'heft' to it. By pressing the button on the end, you open the 'chuck' which holds the chalk in place, making super-easy operation. You need more chalk--you press, voila!
My one issue is that the chuck COULD be a little tighter. Apparently I write/wrote VERY heavily on the blackboard, and my hard pressure would push the chalk into the holder. After three days, though, I've started to write more lightly, and have not had this problem. It's probably also saved me wear and tear on my arm and wrist from all that pressure, so I probably owe this product a big 'thanks!' Since this may just be my chalk-writing issue, I'm not going to blame this product, which is miles above any of the other chalk holders I've tried, but if you, too, find yourself pressing hard on the board, you might also need some re-adjustment.

The chalk keeper is well built and has great weight and feel. I have been using mine for a while and am pleased with everything except the fact that the chalk fits tightly. Sometimes it is difficult to get it out if you push it all the way in, which I do daily.
I am in an MBA program and use the blackboard with my teammates at daily meetings. At first we would just use the chalk, and ended up getting dust all over our suits or dresses. Since I got my chalk keeper, we have been fighting over its use, which actually makes our discussions more orderly!
It is a great product and much better than any other plastic or aluminum chalk holder I have owned.

I've only used the chalk holder for one semester thus far. When I first got it, it held the chalk in place very firmly. The grip was very strong so I was even able to have a small piece of chalk inside it and it would hold it well while I wrote on the board. Over time, however, the grip began to loosen. Now its to the point it won't grip the chalk well enough for me to write on the board. The chalk just slides inside the holder when I apply any pressure to it at all. I was thrilled when I first received this product but unfortunately it has since become quite worthless. I'll have to look elsewhere for my next chalk holder.Customer Review: Great Product

Don't let the picture full you. this is all Metal.. I thought the black part might be plastic. Also.. you can remove the Logo which I thought looked Hideous in all the pictures. My only complaint is that this Chalk Holder did not have a pocket clip..But I removed the clip from my old Chalk Holder which wouldn't hold all size chalk board chalk (would let the chalk slip too much), and placed it on this and it's perfect. This is a HEAVY duty chalk holder that will not break. It will also hold and hide a FULL stick of chalk unlike my old Chalk Holder.Customer Review: Post Surgical Teacher

I recently had hand surgery and I purchased 4 of these for different colored chalks. They were a life saver. Though it took some effort to keep the students away from them as they all wanted to use them when they were called up to the board.
Thses holders were comfortable, the chalk didn't slip, the chalk was easy to load, and the label came off easily.
