Toys and Games Reviews of Step2 WaterWheel Activity Play Table

Customer Review: More Fun Than You'd Think
Summary: 5 Stars

Our 2 and a half year old daughter is a water baby. She loves all properties of water in every form and has been since she took her first bath. She loves sand too so we looked at a few of the combination tables - but I decided that they would get too messy and be too hard to empty and keep the sand clean on the roof-top deck we had at the time as the only outdoor play area at our house.

We got this table for her for her second birthday. When it arrived, my husband thought it didn't look as fun as he had pictured it being...but we can't keep her away from it. Give her a few cups and other water-proof toys and she will fill them up and pour then out and splash around for hours.

My only complaint is that the boats it came with do not float very well. And it may be hard to determine the "educational value" unless you search for it...but just learning the way water works, what happens when you pour it into something that has a hole in it, what does the water wheel do when water flows over it, what happens when you try to pick water up in your hand...At this age - EVERYTHING is a learning experience.

The two spouts on the bottom make for easy emptying of the two areas. None of the pieces have broken even after being thrown and dragged around.

Customer Review: TONS OF FUN! ATTRACTS ALL THE NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS!
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently purchased this little table for my 14 month old son and he LOVES it! He immediately ran over to it at the store(TRU)and showed a tremendous amount of interest in it without any water in it. After looking at other (more expensive) water tables I decided to purchase this one. It has been a HUGE hit ever since. I live in FL so we bring it out in the late evening (too hot to play during the day) and play up until bath time. All the kids on the block (6 kids ranging from 12mo - 7yrs) can't wait till we come out in the evening and set it up. They all love it!!!! Another great thing that I liked about it is that it doesn't take a lot of water to fill it up, so when I dump it out I don't feel like I am wasting a lot of water considering how much water is costing these days!

I too, like many of the other reviewers wish it had a stopper to drain it out, but trust me when I say that it is not a big deal to lift up and dump. And as far as the water wheel, it would have been nice for it to clip on some how...I spend more time picking it up off the ground than my son does playing with it.

Overall, if you have a chance to pick this up...GO FOR IT! It is a great toy and is sure to get a lot of use! Would also make a great birthday gift!

Customer Review: Cute and Fun Toy!

I LOVE Step 2 Products and found this same one at Toys R Us on Clearance since it was end of the summer so only paid $20.00! Worth every penny. I had been reading reviews on this and was concerned how some reviews stated it was cheaper plastic and had complaints about the water wheel not staying attached. This has not been a problem for us at all. We got this for my 16 mth old and love that it does not take up alot of space since our deck is small. The round tub area is just as thick as the Step 2 Play Kitchens...the legs are not as thick but very durable and not cheap plastic by any means. It took about 5 mint. to put together...no tools required:) As for the water wheel...I noticed there are holes that look like you could screw it into the plastic to keep it attached if you wanted to. We have not done that since my little one has not figured out it comes off yet. We put some of her bath toys in there that has the different stackable straining cups and she has a blast! Does not have a drain plug so you do have to empty it yourself...which is easy as can be...light enough for an adult to pick up but too heavy for a child to tip over. During the winter we plan on bringing it inside and filling it with rice for indoor play. I give this product 5 Stars :)

Customer Review: A hit, but problems w/ wheel & tower.

After reading all the enthusiastic reviews here I told my sister she *had* to buy this toy for my just-turned-one year old niece, who adores playing in water. Well, the "little dame" does have lots of fun with this, but we're a bit disappointed that the water wheel won't turn at all, even when we adults attempt to make it work - it's just too stiff to be affected by the rather weak stream of water that falls onto it from the reservoir above (even turning it by hand takes some effort). I assume this is a defect in the unit my sister and her husband purchased, but they haven't yet had the time to try contacting Step 2 about a possible replacement. Also, the "tower" that contains the water wheel isn't very stable; it doesn't snap into place or anything, so it's too easily knocked over... or removed and thrown by a certain little "wrecker". ;) I'm not saying it should lock into place completely so children can't remove it w/o adult help, but it would be easier to use (assuming the wheel actually turned) if it at least "clicked" into place so it didn't fall over so readily. Hopefully this is just another defect in this specific unit that will be solved by replacing the tower/wheel assembly.

Customer Review: Fun, imagination-oriented, creative outdoor play. Highly recommend!

We've had the water table for a year now and our two boys (3 and 1) love it. It's one of their favorite things to do outside (I personally couldn't imagine having them use it inside because of all the splashing). They will literally spend hours playing with it -- my older son will act out his own version of 'Shark Tales' with little plastic fish from our beach toys. It's light enough to easily move around the yard, has held up just fine to heavy use, and is very easy to keep clean just by dumping the water out at the end of the day and occasionally wiping it out. We typically store it in our shed rather than leaving it outside full time. We haven't had any problems with the leaking others mention. As far as the waterwheel and the boats, I think they're perfectly fine. There's no need for the waterwheel to lock down, it's good motor skill practice for the kids to assemble it themselves and to learn to be gentle with it so it doesn't fall over. The boats get a lot of use, and our kids also bring other toys outside to play with in the table. We frequently comment that it's been one of the best toy investments we've made, and I love that it encourages such creative, imaginary play.
