Toys and Games Reviews of Step2 WaterWheel Activity Play TableCustomer Review: Lots of Fun for the Price Summary: 4 Stars
I recently purchased the water wheel table after looking at just about every kind available. Although I originally wanted a sand/water combo, I'm glad that I went with the water-only version. My 21-month-old is not known for sticking with one activity for very long, but she seems to love this toy.
Though we haven't had the table for long, I am very glad I didn't spend more on the larger combo tables.
Here are the pros:
~ Extremely easy to assemble. Absolutely no tools required and assembly, from box to completion, took less than 5 minutes.
~ Very light-weight and compact. The table is easy for an adult to lift (without the water) but it is still sturdy enough for a toddler. While this table is more compact than many on the market, it will accomodate 2-3 toddlers quite easily.
~ Less messy than combo tables. No sand to mix for a muddy mess.
~ Comes with water wheel, cup and two sail boats.
Here are the Cons:
~ Mine does not appear to have a plug. No leaks this way, but a bit harder to drain. However it is small enough that an adult can easily tip it over for cleaning.
~ No cover. This is my only real complaint. If a cover had been included, this would be ideal. However, the compact size makes it easy to drain and fill, so the lack of cover isn't really a big deal.
~ The water wheel is not attached and can be knocked over pretty easily. Not a big deal, but something to note.
~ The toys are just okay. I'll be adding more.
Overall, I found the water wheel table to be a good value, particularly if you want a more compact water table that is easy to assemble, move and store.
Customer Review: It's a Hit- But Not Perfect Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for my home daycare and I first want to say that the kids love it. My children are from 1-3 years old and I haven't found a child yet that didn't love playing with this. They can play with it for quite some time, too, which is nice. It definitely keeps them occupied.
For the price, it is definitely worth it. My only complaints are #1 there is no plug to let the water out. You have to physically dump it over to get the water out and clean it. Not that big of a deal, but it is somewhat inconvenient. A plug would definitely be easier. I wouldn't have even thought about the plug, but I know that other water tables have one so I was expecting one on this.
The other complaint I have is that the water tower attachment doesn't snap into the table somehow. That wouldn't have been too difficult to do and as it is, the children can (and do) pull the water tower down all the time. If the kids are old enough, they will put it back but if they're younger you will be constantly putting it back until you get so sick of it that you just take it down.
Also, one of the boat sails easily broke off the second day we were using it, but that could have been at the fault of one of my kids.
One positive thing- the blue color seems to really attract the kids. I know some other tables are different colors but the blue of this one makes the water very pretty and the kids will often tell me they want to play with the "blue," referring to the table.
Overall, I would recommend this, especially if you are on a budget and don't want one of the other more expensive tables.
Customer Review: Great first water table! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this water table and the colors are so cute and remind me of the sea!
My son got this for Christmas from Dranny (Grandma...don't ask), but didn't get to use it until about two months ago as it was at her house in another state.
The very first day he played with it he splished and splashed, had a good time, and got SOAKED! :)
Accessories included are:
Water Wheel
2 Sailboats
1 Pouring Cup
It does feature a plug.
My only gripe about this table is that there is no cover...as with most other water (or water and sand) tables. I always feel so wasteful when he only plays with it for maybe an hour and then I have to dump it out until the next use. Of course, you want to dump it if you aren't going to use it for a while, but with a cover you could get a couple of days of use from it. You're forced to dump it because we all know that dirt, grass, and other random plant-life or bugs make their way into bodies of water.
So, that is my major complaint. I also wish that the water wheel was attached or clipped in somehow as my little man thinks it's funny to throw it off the deck or in the yard somewhere causing me to have to run and get it every bit or so.
I also recommend trying this table with sand. Sure, it says it's a water table, but there is no harm in putting sand into either or both of the sections.
Recommend!
Customer Review: Great concept - poor quality Summary: 3 Stars
I've always been a big fan of Step 2 products so when I was in the market for a water table this was a no-brainer purchase for my 1 year old (the 5 and 7 year old also enjoy it to some degree). While a water table in general is a lot of fun for any child I was really disappointed with the quality of this product (hence the unusually low price). I would rather pay more and get a quality plastic then this piece. The plastic is not the sturdy, durable plastic I'm accustomed to by this brand, but rather the flimsy, will crack if you drop it, plastic. Upon assembling the tower a part chipped off. Which meant the tower wouldn't hold together and that part was useless. I called Step 2 - had to hold for 15 minutes to get through to anyone. Told them the tower was broken and I needed the 2 piece part sent to me. They were great and said they would - only I only received one half of the tower. So that part is still useless. I'm too frustrated with the whole thing to bother calling again. I would hesitate to purchase Step 2 again in the future until I know the plastic is more durable. God-forbid someone chooses to put some weight on this thing - I don't think it could support more than a few pounds without breaking a leg off. Save your money and by a Rubbermaid or Sterilite tote and fill it with a few inches of water and some rubber duckies.
Customer Review: The best! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought and returned the transportation station table. That one looked like a lot of fun, but it had too many pieces. The toys and tracks didn't stay on, the spinners didn't spin, and the kicker was it LEAKED out of the plugs. Yay for Amazon making returns so easy. We got this one instead.
I LOVE that this is JUST for water. Yeah you can put just water in a sand/water table but this set up IMO is better. I love how is has a deeper side and a shallower side with a slide in between. My 6 year old son said "Wow, this is so much better!" when we got it set up. No plug so no leaking. Water wheel actually spins. My 2 year old twins had so much fun with this this afternoon. My only complaint is that we didn't get it last summer!
Super quick to put together - you don't even need to look at the directions - and loads of fun for the kids. Add a rubber duck and a couple extra cups and you're good to go. Simpler is better in this instance.
I have seen some complaints about the plastic being thin and cheap - can't say I have noticed that. It seems perfectly sturdy to me. It's not double walled like some Little Tikes/Step 2 items, but it's not like a Solo party cup, either. Single walled, but quite thick.
You will not be disappointed with this table!
