Toys and Games Reviews of Step2 Push Around Buggy (Red)

Customer Review: The Best Toy for Infants and Toddlers!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is absolutely by far, the BEST toy we have ever purchased for my son!! We purchased it for his second Christmas when he was 14 months old. He is now 21 months and loves it as much as when he first recieved it! He can't get enough of riding around in it. His 28 month old cousin has one and loves his as well. It is a bright and cheerful buggy with a key, horn and little yellow trunk in the front for my son's favorite toys and my keys and cell phone when we take our daily neighborhood walk. I have just recently taken my stroller out of the trunk and have started taking this buggy with us to stores, park, etc. We live in Texas and during the day it is just too hot to go for a walk, so we bring this indoors for fun rides inside the house. This car comes with us wherever we go. I cannot recommend this enough. My 21 month old son enjoys it thorougly and since he is small for his age, I know we will get at least another three years of use out of it. It has smooth riding tires, that can get a little bumpy on worn streets and rocky areas. When my son was younger, I only took outdoors on the sidewalk because it can be pretty loud on the street. Now that he is older, I do not worry so much about the loudness/bumpy factor. The horn and clicking key are difficult for a little one. He just recently learned how to honk the horn since it takes some arm strength to get it beeping. It is fun to watch him honk his horn when we are out and about. I now have a newborn niece whom I am planning on buying the pink push around buggy for on her first birthday. This is just a great toy!

NOTE: Our push around buggy did not come with the clicking key originally. It instead came with a boring sticker with a picture of a key on it. We contacted Step 2 and asked if we could order a yellow key for it since all of the older model buggies have them. They promptly sent one out to us and didn't even charge us for it! My husband used a large drill bit and an electric screw driver to put the key onto the buggy. It works perfectly!

Customer Review: cute idea... but loud and a tight squeeze
Summary: 2 Stars

We received this gift for Christmas when my son was 6 months old. Since the box said 18-36 months we didn't even open it until his first birthday at 12 months old. The buggy is super cute and he did seem excited about taking a ride in it. However, he's tall(in the 90th percentile at 12 months) and he fits very tightly in the buggy - leg, knee and feet wise. He's not yet walking so we don't have shoes so we usually put him in barefoot or with socks. Because he is cramped, he tends to throw his feet out the side and because he's so tall they scrape on the ground. Not just the bottoms but when you push the buggy, the top of his feet scrape the road/sidewalk and get cut up and get caught under the back wheels of the buggy. It makes it impossible to use the buggy. We should have used it when he was younger. Otherwise, its a cute buggy!

Update: So, we tried this buggy a handful of times from 12 - 18 months of age but he's just too big. By 18 months my son was wearing size 8 shoes so his feet did not fit in the buggy with shoes. A size 7 was a tight squeeze. He is 30 inches tall and very thin and his belly is tight against the steering wheel. He can't even really hold the wheel to pretend to drive because his elbows are out to the sides.

I was so disappointed that we had this basically brand new buggy in our garage that I finally brought it into our living room at 22 months of age. His feet fit into the foot slots without shoes on, so we leave it in the house without the handle. We push him around sometimes, he pushes it around himself, and he uses it as a chair to watch tv sometimes. He plays with the hood and hides toys inside. So, we're at least getting some use out of it.

I think a better age range for this is 9-24 months. Oh, and I forgot to mention that it's suer loud with the wheels rolling on the road/sidewalk. And it's a little annoying that you need to lift the front wheels to turn the buggy.

Customer Review: Best $40 I have ever spent
Summary: 5 Stars

First I have to disagree with the reviewer who says the seating compartment is too small for the age indicaiton. My daughter is very tall at 17 months, taller than most 2 year olds with very long legs and about 30 pounds. She fits in the compartment very comfortably (so do the 4 year olds at the park that want to sit in the red car, well not comfortably but they don't complain). When we were at the store I was unsure about the fit but noticed that her bottom was about 3 inches forward and she was slouching back. When she sits up she fits like a glove.

It is absolutely her favorite toy and she insists on a ride atleast once daily. We went on vacation for a week and as soon as we got back home she went running into the house, found her car and climbed in.

The handle is at a good height and comfortable to push. One initial reason I was looking at this is because my daughter loved me to bend over and push her around on the other little scooters and bikes we have, well my back can only take so much of that.

The hard plastic wheels do sound like a big wheel going down the sidewalk, but that is not problematic for us. My daughter does occasionally put her fingers on the rear wheel as someone else mentioned (I thought she was the only one), but I watch and it does not seem to hurt her, she has also grown out of that somewhat. And another thing is that she lieks it so much she gets in by herself and buckles the strap, which she can not undo, so then she yells for me.

All in all, this is definitely the hands down favorite toy (out of MANY) in our house.

Customer Review: Go for similar one with rubber tires instead!
Summary: 2 Stars

I was really excited when I bought this for my daughter but boy, it sure is LOUD!!! It is extremely noisy when pushing on the sidewalk and makes it difficult to have a conversation if you are walking with someone else. My 14 mo old daughter doesn't seem to mind and she seems to enjoy it but I sure wish I took time to read not only the 5 stars reviews which didn't mention about the loudness of the tires. Especially after using my neighbor's radio flyer which has rubber tires, it sure makes a huge difference! I would have been glad to spend the extra money and exchange this one except after only one use around the neighborhood, you can already see the scratches on the wheels. So unless you don't mind dealing with the loud noise, you may want to check out other similar toys that have rubber tires instead. In addition, I agree with another reviewer that at best, I can see my daughter still liking to ride it perhaps til 2 while on the other hand I can see still using a radio flyer til age 4 or even older, not to mention having an extra space for another child, a diaper bag, a blanket, or even a small dog! I think it would have been a better value overall. Otherwise, I think a push tricycle would also be more enjoyable after age 2. And lastly, I wish they created a plastic key ignition instead of the stickers it came with! Aside from the wheels and horn your child can play with as he/she sits there, rest are just stickers you put on. Anyway just somethings to consider before buying!

Customer Review: My 9 month old LOVES this car!
Summary: 5 Stars

My child received this for Christmas last month. He was almost 9 months old at the time. He got TONS of toys for Christmas and he likes most of them. But we think this is probably his favorite of all he received. We have hard wood floors and only use it indoors to keep from scratching up the wheels and getting pebbles inbedded in them, etc., and therefore scratching up the floors. But it makes a great way to entertain him indoors when I don't feel like going out or it is cold or dark outside. He even likes to just sit in it and watch a video - we say he is "at the drive-in". He was the most excited I had ever seen him when he opened this toy up and sat in it the first time. It seems very sturdy and the seat belt is a great idea! I am sure we would get even more out of it by taking it to the mall or outdoors, but we are really enjoying it inside our house! *My child is now 15 mos. and still really likes the car! On our particular one it is hard to take off the handle and then get it back on again, but we still mostly use it indoors and just keep the handle on. Also, some reviews complain that it does not work for largers toddlers. Our child is more on the larger side and it fits him just fine.
UPDATE: My 2 1/2 year old strattles the car and moves it around with his feet. We just take the handle off when he is using in this manner. Still a popular toy at our house!
