My Son got this when he was 2 now that he's 6 1/2 he still loves it and he now shares it with his little sister (almost 2) We've used this indoors and out...he got it for his birthday in december and in minnesota outdoor play in december gets pretty cold, so we scooped snow into it for some fun play! He had a ball! indoor snowmen are so much fun! Then we used it for a little pool when it hit 85 degrees in April! That same summer we filled it with sand and he had just a ball! We never had any problems with bugs and the lid kept the sand free of rain water and kept it from being a litter box for neighborhood cats. We replaced the sand each spring just because I felt that it needed it. The only negative issue I have with the sand box is it has faded to have alot of mauve tones but considering it's been outside for four years it's doing pretty good! It's just the right size and fits into the landscaping perfectly, it's smack in teh center of my garden and alot of people don't even realize it's a child's sandbox!Customer Review: Nice little sandbox

Sandboxes are great toys and this one has the advantage of not visually dominating a small yard. We have had it now for a month. Our 15month old really enjoys it. The cover keeps the sand pretty dry (not totally dry, but damp sand is more fun than dry sand). Also, flipped upside down and balanced against the sandbox, the cover can be filled with water and makes a great little pool for a 1 year old. The cons: the corner pieces are not comfortable to sit on at all for me and I can't put our daughter on one because if she fell backwards she'd crack her head open on the patio. So she sits inside. When she is in it with her sand toys there isn't room for anyone else, so I wouldn't recommend this to someone with two toddlers. (The neighbourhood kids play with my daughter in it, but they are 8 years old, so just sit outside it and dig with their hands.) We have a very small yard and only one child so this sandbox is ideal for us: for people with 2 kids+ and a decent yard, I'd probably get a bigger box.Customer Review: Not as sturdy as the larger verision. I mistakenly thought this was the same model my parents have for the grandkids. Unfortunately it is a bit smaller and a lot less sturdy.
There are 4 cutouts along the edge of the lid. Not only do they weaken the edge that fits on the sandbox, but they leave openings that allow moisture and insects to get inside even when it's perfectly aligned.
The top fits on securely at first, but it easily warps if it's leaned up against something when the sandbox is in use. After one summer's use, it's now hard to get the edges lined up with the border on the top of the sandbox. We've already had a few instances where it popped off and rain got in it because a warped edge wasn't pulled over the lip.
The larger model can easily be dropped on with one hand--this one requires a little work after a while.
Overall it is a good sandbox, just be sure to lay the lid flat when in use (keep in mind that takes up a lot of space if you are dealing with a small area).

This is a wonderful sandbox. We have 3 teenage boys and used the little tikes turtle sandbox for years. Now after adopting our little girl and 15 years after our turtle s.b. we were pleasantly surprised to find such an upgrade in sandboxes.The appearance of this one is not an eyesore blends nicely with any landscaping, seats on the corners perfect for my 2 yr old daughter and 4 yr old neice, amount of space inside not too small or too large.
The cover is durable and very sturdy but light enough to take off easily. When I remove the cover and place it upright on the patio my 2 yr old who is all of 24 lbs climbs on top of it and it does not cave or buckle one bit. We live near the windy city and have had many storms the past 3 months with over 50 mile and hour winds --cover never budged, no water inside.
We are very very pleased with this sandbox , definetly worth the money.

We love this sandbox. It's the perfect size for both my 5 and 2 yr olds to play together or to have their "separate corners," and we've even had up to 4 kids using the sandbox simultaneously without problems during a playdate. The textured outer surface of the sandbox must somehow help to prevent the plastic from getting too hot to touch because my son has never had any issues with removing the lid or sitting on the stumps, (though I usually set up the beach umbrella to shield them from the sun during playtime.) The lid also does a great job of staying put on super windy days and of preventing water from entering the sand pit during storms. Also, the box is deep enough so that you can get a good amount of sand in the box for some really imaginative play. We'll definitely be taking this box with us on our next move. I would definitely recommend this sandbox!
