Toys and Games Reviews of Step2 Naturally Playful Sand and Water Activity CenterCustomer Review: Very Pleased W/ Table...Blue Sand and All! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I purchased this sand and water table for our daughter's 2nd birthday. It was the hit of the party! After my daughter finished opening her gifts, the kids didn't even want to eat cake because they wanted to play with the table! Also, instead of buying the regular "type" of sand, we bought blue sand! That was a surprise to the kids as well.
Overall, the table was easy to put together, the umbrella is a nice added touch, and the size is great too. The legs are very sturdy as well. We are very happy with our purchase!
*****Update as of May 30, 2006******
I've added a picture in the customer images of our table with the blue sand, with all of the kids from the party playing in it. They all LOVED IT! It's just like the regular sand, only it adds alittle "somethin!" :)
Every single day my kids play with the table. We are just so pleased with it!
Customer Review: Birdseed Schmirdseed! Summary: 4 Stars
We purchased this table for our 3yr old at Christmas. Overall we have been quite pleased with it & he really likes it. The elastic bungee cords on either end of the lid were quite snug and did not allow enough slack to attach to the table as easily as I thought it should have, & subsequently they broke off after about a month. The lid seems snug enough without the cords. Also, I thought I'd be clever and use birdseed instead of sand, as several reviewers suggested. Not a great idea if you have squirrels around! Within a matter of 4 days, they had completely gnawed through the lid in 2 places, one hole large enough for me to put my hand through! Keep this in mind if you're thinking about using birdseed. Maybe they wouldn't be as attracted to the dry rice though, as another reviewer suggested. Not sure I'm going to try my luck again...We'll be using sand from now on :0
Customer Review: Great table, terrible umbrella Summary: 4 Stars
We have had this sand and water table for our 2 year old for about 8 months. He loves it and plays with it everyday. It is a GREAT toy and great quality, BUT the umbrella is really crappy. The quality is terrible. We don't even live in a windy city, and we in fact do not leave the umbrella up when he is not playing with it, but within 2 weeks the umbrella material started to come off the spines, and at this point the umbrella is holding on by a thread. I want to really be clear that we did NOT leave the umbrella up overnight or when our son was off playing with something else during the day. Never left it out in the rain, nothing. It's just bad quality. That being said most of the sand tables don't even have umbrellas so I guess it is better than nothing. Just don't expect it to last. (And if you live somewhere windy - don't expect it to last long at all!)
Customer Review: Kids love this - lots of fun Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great water table. My kids love it (ages 1 and 3). They drive matchbox size tractors and bulldozers around the sand area to build roads and come up with lots of different ways to enjoy the sand and water. The umbrella is a great addition for the shade.
I rated 3 for durability because we've had it for 2 years and the center is beginning to droop. This causes the the water to run into the sand side before the rest of the water side fills up. It bugs me, but my kids don't seem to notice or care. I might just put a support of some kind under the center of the table to level it back out. Would be nice if this was built in from the get-go. Overall a great product that provides hours of outdoor imaginative play, and other than the drooping issue it has withstood 2 years of play and I expect it last several more.
Customer Review: My 2 boys love this! Summary: 4 Stars
We have 2 boys, and bought this a few months ago for my youngest son's first birthday. we choose to keep it in a screened porch off the back of the house, so have not used the umbrella. My 3 1/2 year old and now-16 month old love this table. they have had countless hours of fun. Sand and water will be mixed constantly (it took them about 5 minutes after setting it up), but that is part of the fun of it. It has been very durable, but has 2 drawbacks that keep me from giving it 5 stars. First, the water needs to be changed fairly regularly or we have found that algae grows in it. Second, that is not easy to do -- a lot of sand gets in the water side (at least on our table), and there is no screen on the drain, so all of the sand goes pouring out making a big mess. That said, I still would buy it again without hesitation.
