Toys and Games Reviews of Step2 Naturally Playful Sand and Water Activity CenterCustomer Review: Fantastic toy!!! Summary: 5 Stars
All parents know how great it feels when you buy something for your kids and they LOVE it. This table makes everyone happy!! My kids (2 and 6 yrs old) haven't stopped playing with this toy since we got it! It's the first thing they want to do after breakfast and I have to bring them in from it for lunch!! Is it messy?? Sure is, but they're kids. Kids love getting messy. They will get sand in the water and water in the sand, so don't buy this thinking it won't happen. It will, but the table is very easy to clean out and fill back up...ready for more mess!! The legs on mine are leaking a little bit, but that's nothing a little silicone caulk won't fix - and it's out on our back patio, so it doesn't really bother us anyway. The table is sturdy and well built, not to mention asthetically pleasing. No bright, annoying colors.
Bottom line, if you want a great toy that offers hours of educational and imaginitive play, BUY THIS!! You won't be disappointed!!
Customer Review: How are you REALLY going to use this? Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this for my daughter's first birthday, thinking I would do the sand and water thing together, but actually I ended up buying a sit-in sandpit and separate splash pool just 6 months later, both of which my daughter prefer infinitely. This table is good for making sand castles/pies etc. where you're mixing water and sand together, but if you want to encourage sand and water play as separate activities then this is isn't really the best thing for the job. Also, don't kid yourself like I did that a table would be less messy - it isn't. My daughter loves nothing more than to pour sand and water all over the floor - and herself.
For the table itself, our plug in the water side leaks, the whole table sags slightly in the middle so the boats get stuck going round the outside edge and if sand does get in the water side (which it does frequently) it's a nightmare to get it back out again as the plug area is raised above the level of the table bottom.
Customer Review: Prepare to spend hours outside with your toddler... Summary: 5 Stars
My son loves this toy. Most of the time we just fill up the sand side and let him play in that.
When it's super hot out I put water in the water side too. The water side has a very nice drain in the bottom so it is easy to empty out. Despite the cover we never leave water in there after we're done playing.
I don't really use the umbrella because the play table is set up under our sunroom so it's in the shade all of the time.
The cover is awesome, it keeps bugs out of the sand and keeps everything inside relatively clean.
Believe it or not my 18 month old has figured out that he can climb into the sand side and sit in there and play. Probably not a recommended use, but that side is big enough for one little kid to play around in.
I also like the brown colors, it makes the table blend in with the rest of the backyard and stand out obnoxiously.
Great toy, just what I expected.
Customer Review: Don't hesitate Summary: 5 Stars
This sand box is amazing. Considering that the others are the same price, this is, without a doubt, the one to purchase. The leak-proof top, the toys, the natural look of the toy and the shade umbrella all make this unique.Things to know: 1) do NOT cut the black cord on the outside of the box. This holds the top on and makes it resistant to rain getting into the toy. This is not evident when you purchase it, as the instruction manual is inside the box. (thank you other reviewer for this tip!) 2) The umbrella is a true navy, not black as it appears in the picture 3) get over your dreams of a perfect sand and water table, with the sand in one area and the water in the other. My son loves the sand and throws it all around our deck. He mixes the water in the sand area and vise versa. Let it go, as hard as it is. 4) the sand area holds 40 lbs. of sand. An average bag is 50 lbs (around $5) But get a second bag anyway (see #3) Have FUN!
Customer Review: Good toy but takes some work Summary: 4 Stars
this sand/water table is like any other toy you show your kiddies: they'll love love love it for the first day then you have to mix it up to keep their interest. at our house we rotate toys to avoid boredom. with this, if we dont play with it for awhile it becomes like a new toy! and we alternate betw using birdseed (instead of sand) and water (never both at same time!) depending on the weather. we havent tried sand and water in it, ironically but the birdseed is fun for my 1 1/2 yr old and my 2 1/2 yr old. of course they get tired of it if we play with it every day, but when we change things around it is great fun. my only word of caution is, like many reviewers, we've noticed the wobbly legs. my hubby is about to shore them up with addtl screws but be careful moving it! i would say this is worth it, but its not a magic wand that'll entertain your kids every time! use a little creativity, people and your kids will like it!
