Toys and Games Reviews of Spinmaster Moon Sand Castle Play SetCustomer Review: Lots of Fun Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my niece and nephew - my sister didn't want it at her house because of the mess, so it's stayed at my house for them. They love it and I love it. If I need to get something done, I can pull that out and they play with it nicely, without fighting (which is a bit of a miracle). I see other reviews say it's very messy, but I haven't had much of a problem with it. I just have them use in a room with no carpeting and if any gets on the floor, just vacuum it up. I think the kit should come with more sand, but I just bought some extra so you can actually make the castle. I did make the mistake of building a volcano, covering it all with plastic wrap and pouring baking soda and vinegar to make the volcano "erupt" and now my niece and nephew want to that every time, and that was messy for sure.
Customer Review: TERRIBLE STUFF! Summary: 1 Stars
We were given this as a gift for Christmas and I'm sorry but its not something I would ever give to a friend. Its EXTREMELY messy and not appropriate for 3 year olds (especially active hyper boys like I have). The sand gets everywhere. At least with playdough you could use it to pick up the rest of its stray parts by sticking it together. Moon sand sticks to nothing with means its goes EVERYWHERE. Most of it is going to end up in the vacuum after the first use. Also, the colors get all mixed together VERY easily because you can't stick them together. Its impossible to make what they show in the picture without being at least 10 years old and VERY patient! This is definitely at toy that requires DIRECT adult supervision if you don't want to be feeling "the sand between your toes" for days to come!
Customer Review: One small toy for your children, one giant mess for you Summary: 5 Stars
After the relentless TV marketing blitz, our hypnotized children demanded Moon Sand for Christmas. I admit we were a lot concerned about all the warnings on this site and others about the mess. Well, the kids have been playing with the Moon Sand -- and only Moon Sand -- non-stop for two days, and now we know. Yes, it's a mess. They spread that blasted Moon Sand everywhere. But here's the thing: It's no more of a mess than anything else our kids get their sticky little hands on. Our kids can make a complete mess out of our house with a wooden spoon and a roll of tape. So, what difference does it make if now it's Moon Sand? And honestly, it's not that big of a deal to clean up. Scoop it up off hard surfaces, vacuum it off the soft ones. Enough said ... have fun.
Customer Review: Great Concept but falls short there. Summary: 1 Stars
I thought this would be the best gift for a little girl that LOVES the Beach. However this is not something that I love. It comes with very little sand and does not seem to puff up like it says it should once you open a package of it. The colors that you can purchase only mix together and become a colorful blob (yes basic common sense would know this). In addition it is very difficult to get the sand out of the molds once you mold it (impossible for a 4 year old). Probably due to the fact that you need to pack the sand in so hard to make it mold that it is very difficult to get out even after washing the molds in warm soapy water as suggested in the directions. Like I said in the tital great concept but falls short of being good. Stick with real sand.
Customer Review: hours of oohs and aahs Summary: 5 Stars
My kids love this product. It is messy, but I expected that. We've had the blow-up tray filled with moon sand and castle molds set up on our porch for a week and the kids have gone outside to play with it every day. The neighbor kids have come over to play with the moon sand and love it too. I'm about to buy a huge tub of the stuff so everyone will have enough to build something. I don't know why people who posted negative reviews expected this to be neat and tidy. It is sand, after all. And I say let the kids be kids and dig in. The fun they'll have is soooo worth it. Of course, I don't want moon sand on my living room carpet either...that's why it's on the porch. When the weather turns cold, I'll let the kids play with it in the basement.
