Toys and Games Reviews of Spin Master PixOs Super Studio

Customer Review: very frustrating for kids
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this toy for my children (7, 5, and 3) and was very disappointed. They had a difficult time getting the balls to go in the proper holes and once placed, the balls would roll around and have to be repositioned (usually causing other balls to pop out of their proper places). After lots of help from mom, the creations were dried using the fan and following all directions. Unfortunately, once dried, the designs would rip apart when removed from the tray or fall apart while the kids were showing them off to each other. I experimented with lots of variations of drying time and wetness, but nothing seemed to improve the strength of the bonds. I've hidden the toy because it's so frustrating for them to use and will probably just put it in the garbage when they're at school (I can't imagine donating it to charity and subjecting another child to this irritation!)

Customer Review: WOW!

I purchased this product for my 6 year old daughter who went crazy every time she saw it on TV. I was skeptical after seeing the commercials, but when I saw it at Wal-Mart for less than $30; I figured we'd give it a try.

Out the box, the product seemed to be fairly well made but the instructions were extremely vague, once we got it together, my daughter did a quick puppy and we let it dry for the initial 5-10 minutes as per the instructions. After an additional 10 minutes passed and the thing was still wet, we put it outside in the hot Arizona sun...it dried, but the beads didn't stick. My daughter's suggestion was to put Perla beads into the chambers.

I made the mistake of reading the reviews AFTER the purchase, but I packaged it up and promptly returned it to the store. I've never been more disappointed with a toy purchase.

Customer Review: Great, if you have patience~

There are a couple of tricks that will make the project last better though, make sure you have more than 1 bead as the joint, use lots of water and dry for a long time.

My 5 and a half year old daughter BEGGED for these for Christmas. The first project we were dissappointed as it fell apart, after that we just kept trying more and more water. Now we figured out after making the project, get it fairly wet, let dry for about 15 mintutes, then useing a study note card, I transferred to design to saran wrap, saturate again and let dry overnight. I know it sounds like a lot of hassle, but it is not so bad, and my daugher loves it.

She loves to make her own designs instead of using the templates and if you can order those other beads, that will be WONDERFUL as the beads to go FAST!!!

Customer Review: Dan the single dad
Summary: 3 Stars

I originally thought this purchase was going to be a big waste. My son has been drooling over the toy for months, so I went ahead and bought the machine version. He is five, so i was pleasantly surprised how benifitial it was to his manual dexterity. He stayed motivated, and went through the bead supply in one day. Thats the first problem with the toy - they do not include nearly enough beads, and the refills are expensive. He patiently filled out the patterns, and I fixed any errors for him. I sprayed them twice, letting them dry about 1/2 hour between sprayings. The patterns came out nice after a little careful prying with a nail. If the toy came with more beads and patterns, I would have given it a 4 star. It was a pleasant surprise it even rated a 3, as I expected it to be a big flop

Customer Review: Frustrating - We took it back to the store
Summary: 1 Stars

My 7 year-old daughter wanted to buy this with her birthday money, so I let her. Right out of the box, we discovered that the drying fan didn't work. We checked and re-checked the batteries, but we couldn't get it to turn on. Daughter said she didn't care about the fan and wanted to play with it anyway. After making a design and waiting for it to dry, we discovered that pixos stick to the tray better than they stick to themselves. We couldn't get the designs out of the tray without breaking them. Then there was more spraying and pushing pieces together to try and repair them. When I discovered that my 3 year-old could pull the designs apart easily and my 1 year-old started eating them (I'm still not completely comfortable with the new "poison-free" formula) we took the thing back to the store.
