Toys and Games Reviews of Spin Master PixOs Super StudioCustomer Review: Mother needs a break Summary: 3 Stars
My children wanted this toy very bad andthey go it for Christmas. They are having a great time with it however they are 4 and it requires a lot of help from me. they cannot the beads where they need to be just right and if they hit the tray the beads go in other places and need to be fixed. The pixo does take a while to dry. I usually help it with a hairdryer on cold I carefully remove it with a butter knife because the back of the pixo is still wet and sticky so by carefully removing it with a knife turn it on the other side on a plate and help it dry by itself or with a hairdryer but again it takes a lot of parent time. I would recommend it for children a little older who could be a little more independent and a little more patient with the drying time. They are enjoying it and that is what counts. You only get enough of the pixo to do it once each picture so you do need to get more refills.
Customer Review: Educational in the sense that you learn to read reviews *BEFORE* you buy stuff Summary: 1 Stars
My 9 year old son Nick got this for Christmas. He was really psyched... he'd seen the commercials on TeeVee and thought the toy would be fun. He was crushed when the first few designs he spent hours toiling over fell totally apart when he tried to remove them from the little plasticky thingies that hold the beads while they're drying. It took forever to create the designs because the beads would bounce around or knock other beads out of place or roll into another spot.
I suggested we wait quite a bit longer for the beads to dry before we tried to peel them of the backing, but that made, like, no difference what so ever. Even a simple rectangular design would rip apart when you tried to pull it off.
My son has a comment he'd like to add - " It's dumb garbage DON 'T BY THE STUPID THING IT'S A WAST OF MONEY YOU HEARD ME DONT BY THEM" this is a horrible toy :(
Customer Review: The Pixos Don't Stixos! Summary: 1 Stars
My 6 year old begged for Pixos for xmas and soon after playing with it begged for us to trade it with santa for something else. Her words, "This is so frustrating!" And she's right. Apparently there is some elusive amount of water that must be sprayed on the pixos or else they fall apart and break soon after coming out of the molds. The instructions say they dry within 10 minutes under the fan, but we found they had to sit overnight to even be remotely successful. The instructions say lightly mist the beads with water, but that doesn't work. Too much water or too little water equals a pile of pixos garbage. This product is a huge disappointment and upon talking with other parents we knew who bought it for their kids as well, they ALL had the same exact thing to say. Looks like Pixos made their holiday money and in the wake left a lot of disappointed children behind. Very disappointing.
Customer Review: Pleased Summary: 5 Stars
Despite poor reviews, I purchased this product for my 5 year old son for Christmas. Although we have only had it for a couple of weeks, I am pleased with the product. Based on the other reviews I was concerned that it would just be frustrating, but he has thoroughly enjoyed it, and we now have more Pixo art that one could ever hope for. My son has excellent gross motor skills, but poor fine motor skills. The dispenser works well, and he is easily able to manipulate the little wand. There is virtually no mess, and it keeps my son busy for a long time.
That being said, I have followed other reviewers' instructions to completely saturate the design with water, and let it dry overnight. To speed drying, we set the tray on the heat vent or on the warm clothes dryer. The items my son has made have been durable and have so far withstood play and abuse from my 3 year old.
Customer Review: Interesting concept, terrible toy Summary: 2 Stars
Purchased this for my 6 year-old daughter. Assembly was easy and the concept seemed good but this thing is border line junk.
CONS:
1. The beads constantly get jammed in the revolving head when trying to change
from one color to another
2. If the beads happen to get moist they get stuck in the dispensing tube.
3. The soft fan blades hardly circulates any air.
4. The kit came with a very limited amount of beads.
5. As other mentioned, the bead template some times leaves gaps that do
not allow the beads to touch and fuse together.
My daughter still found the patience to play with this toy for the past few days but I can see this going in the trash before too long. I'm going to try dispensing the beads from a garden seed dispenser and see if that works better that the revolving head....
