Toys and Games Reviews of Spin Master PixOs Super Studio

Customer Review: We're glad this product is back on the shelves!
Summary: 4 Stars

My 5 year old and I were thrilled when this product became available again. We have had to work a little harder with this product as it doesn't seem to stick as well as the aqua dots did but after awhile we figured it out and realized that we weren't spraying enough water on it and we weren't waiting long enough for it to dry. If you do those two things right, it was our experience that the designs don't fall apart. I gave it a 4 star because I agree with the other reviewer that you will require more product. Once you get going and get the hang of it and start getting really creative you are longing for more beads! It will require your child to have patience and may develop your child's patience. If you think you can just hand this over to a 5 year old and go do your thing, you're mistaken. For younger children, still developing patience, an adult will need to assist in order to ensure that this is a fun and creative project rather than a frustrating one. After your child gets the hang of it and develops patience, they can do this on their own. If you try to rush through this you will find yourself frustrated with beads falling out of place and not sticking well.

Customer Review: Poor design
Summary: 2 Stars

This product is great in theory, poor in execution. My 8 yo daughter really likes the idea of gadgets so turning the cache to choose her colors and using the attached pen to place the pixos is right up her alley. As a parent, however, I can't stand this toy. The pixos get caught under the cup that holds/delivers the pixos to the pen and the only way I've figured out to get them out is by lifting up the cup (I haven't figured out how to remove it) holding the spaces between the cups over the slot that releases them letting them into the tube that attaches the cups to the pen, one by one. It's a painstaking process and clearly NOT how the product is designed. It's hard to do and my daughter doesn't have the strength/dexterity to get it done. The only other option is to ignore that the pixos are caught between the cups but if you let it go long enough, so many pixos get caught under it that the cup doesn't rotate right and the toy just doesn't work. I'm hoping that my daughter will eventually forget about this and I can just throw it away. The thing that kills me is that she saved up her own money to buy this and it is a huge disappointment.

Customer Review: Kids love it, but manage expectations
Summary: 3 Stars

My daughter (6) bugged me after every commercial. I explained that things don't work in real life like they do on TV. Finally I gave in and ordered a set with 2000 extra "bonus" pixos.
Quality of the set is cheap. It's another standard parent model building project, but not too difficult. The separate pen works and so does the tube if you follow directions. I taught my daughter the instructions and showed her the tip that the colored trays are matched to vertical or horizontal cards. Other than that, few tricks.
Biggest problem is failure to stick together. Second biggest is 2000 pixos last a few days and they are expensive for what they are.
My daughter does love the set, but is frustrated at removing the designs she made without them falling apart. She also wants to make backgrounds for designs which eats hundreds of pixos per picture and 3D designs are unlikely.
Bottom line. An oversold toy, but does have asset of being fun and a mildly different and interesting craft. Buy only if your kid understands it isn't like on TV, but it can be fun with the right attitude.

Customer Review: Kids loved it but fan part burns out quickly.
Summary: 3 Stars

I'd recommend buying the pixo starter set instead, which I plan on pre-ordering.. my 6 year old absolutely loved aquadots (which is the exact same product as this just a new name ) but the fan burned out on it after only two or three weeks of use... we found that as long as you CAREFULLY follow the instructions given on how to apply water air-drying works just fine - lift the design carefully and if it still seems lose carefully re-apply water... through trial and error you'll discover the best method... or you could always use a hair dryer on the "cold" air setting. As you can probably guess from this review your little one will need help i.e. this isn't a product she can play with without a grownup's assistance... also if you have babies around apparently this isn't a good toy to buy due to the possibility of little tykes swallowing the beads and becoming poisoned as a result. Apparently the new non-aquadots version of this product isn't supposed to be poisonous but better safe than sorry...do a search on wikipedia for Bindeez (another name for this product) for more information.

Customer Review: advice for more fun and less stress
Summary: 4 Stars

This toy is alot of fun.I got it for Christmas. It was the top thing on my Christmas list.I learned that you need alot of water and need to let it dry for about 15-20 minutes.I let it dry but it does not go by fast.In my opinion a hair dryer is the best trick to get it to dry. Also, the larger you make your creation the harder it is to get off the tray. But you still need to get it off gently or it wil rip and it's useless to try to put it back together. Then you need to throw them out which gives you less pixos. Sometimes it will give you alot of stress trying to get it to stick. Try to put it back together once or twice and if it dosen't work, you are probobly going to have alot of stress and to get rid of the stress, throw the creation out and try again. If you are making a thin line of pixos like a flower stem, double the pixos. It will give you less pixos but then when you try to get it off the tray and it won't work then you will have to do it again which will give you even less pixos. You will need to buy more pixos but the amount of fun and patience your child gets is worth it.
