Customer Review: Fun if you have wood floors

Yes, it's messy. It's sand. It gets everywhere. Keep it on a hard surface - wood, linoleum, etc.
It sticks together well, and the included molds are a lot of fun. Solid plastic construction too.
Please note - there are NO storage containers for the sand provided. Plan to get some Glad disposable boxes or several heavy duty ziplock bags to store the sand in. You'll also want another container to store all the molds in. Would have been a 5-star review if it came with containers and was self-storing.

My kids love play doh but wanted to try moon sand. I agree with other reviews it is NOT mess free, but seriously it's sand did you think that was truly mess free? The blow up "mat" helps a little, but it's too small in my opinion. I did have 2 kids playing it at the same time, so maybe one would be better. It is fun to play with though I wish it had instructions or something. It's hard to get in and out of the molds, but once you get the hang of it you have lots of fun. This product was purchased for a 5 year old who was dying to have moon sand. Moon Sand is a great product for fine motor development. Yes it's a messier "toy" than most, but kids love it. I work in a preschool and see their joy first hand. My only obstacle with this set so far is that my daughter cannot make a "big castle" unless we buy more sand. You really need to pack the sand in tightly in order to keep the shape of the mold. I'm ordering more moon sand soon. It's worth it!Customer Review: Messy and disappointing.

If your kid can play with a handful of regular sand without making mess then this toy is for you.
As far as my kids (6 and 3) go within an hour of play most of that stuff was on the floor and not much to play with.
Pretty disappointing too, the commercials and packaging shows and promise elaborate creations which may be only done by older kids and with the help of an adult. Luckily it is easy to clean from the carpet with the vacuum cleaner.

The Moon Sand is very fun for my 6 year old. It keeps her occupied for a long time.
I think it is terribly messy, and impossible to keep the colors from blending. Plus it doesn't come in a storage container, so I had to find something to put it in.
Overall, I am glad that I bought it because it has been on my daughters wish list and she was thrilled to get it. I will never buy it again though, this is a one time thing for me.
