Toys and Games Reviews of Bella Dancerella Home Ballet Studio with DVDCustomer Review: OK For Kids, Expected more as an adult Summary: 3 Stars
This dvd set was orgionally priced at about $30, but I got it on sale for $17 (thankfully). My set was the Swan Lake edition and came with 2 dvds and 2 mats, one bar and NO shoes. The first dance DVD was horrific. The girl (who couldn't have been more than 14, if that) had huge braces and a pretty thick accent, and was hard to follow what she was saying. The songs were very annoying from a moms point of view; my daughter has almost 100 DVDs and there is not one song on any of them that is more annoying than the songs on this DVD. She also was very quick with her instructions, and my daughter found it hard to follow. There was also a lot of time spent talking to a rude monkey and mute teddy bears. The kids also looked very unhappy and had forced smiles on thier faces.
The second video was far less annoying, and had much better songs. And Bella was sans braces. The set was much nicer, and I don't think there were any talking stuffed animals. If you are going to buy this, I highly recommend getting the Swan Lake version.
I'm ok with it for $17, but if I had paid full price I would have considered returning it.
Customer Review: How much do I hate this DVD? Summary: 2 Stars
The bar is nice, and I suppose the mat will come in handy for reviewing the basic positions. But the DVD... it's just awful. The music is painfully bad. Seriously, what dp little girls dressed like fruit have to do with ballet? And the "host" is a confusing choice: her accent is distracting, and it's made even worse by the fact that she's talking around braces. The two little girls who help her don't look much happier. In fact, the one on the left looks like someone told her to smile or else.
Trying to keep up with the nominally enducational DVD is harder than you might think, as the mat has two sides and you have to flip it over mid-stream, only you get no warning and no time to do it. And the positions are introduced too quickly and with no discussion; they're just lyrics to the annoying song.
Our daughter got this for her 3rd birthday, and she actually looked at me the first time we watched it and said, "I want the fruit to go away." I had to laugh out loud and tell her I did too! Overall, I'm sorry her grandparents spent $15 on this. Total disappointment.
Customer Review: Seriously Bad Summary: 1 Stars
Santa brought this present for my three year old daughter this past year. Boy, wasn't Santa surprised to find such junk in the box. The bar was junk, the mat was junk, and the DVD was worse than junk!
I don't think I could find anything else on TV as bad as this DVD. The music was horrible. It's supposed to be a ballet DVD. Let's try some classical music?? Of all the beautiful young women on the planet, they had to pick this girl?? I have to agree with a previous reviewer that this was definitely the producer's daughter, as she had absolutly no other redeeming qualities. She has a horribly annoying voice, a face that hasn't launched any ships, and no talent for ballet.
I have not let my daughter watch the DVD since Christmas week as I just can't stand it. She does run around the house singing bella bella dancerella. But I just put on our Dance with Barbie tape.
Don't waste your money! If you decide that you have to have it watch for sales as we got it for $[...]at Target.
Customer Review: It's not as good as bella cinderella. Summary: 4 Stars
The filming is cheesy, the hostess is excitable, but my 2 year old daughter likes it anyway.
'Santa Claus' brought this for her for Christmas and I thought it was good until I opened 'Bella Cinderella' which I highly recommend over this program.
The first 10 minutes, Bella spends teaching the kids about the history of the dance and lets them know that it's okay if you don't get it right, because the only way we learn to do anything is by practicing, which I think is GREAT!!!
As for the dances, they are easy enough for a young child to follow, and a cute way to learn if your little girl is interested in pursuing ballet as an art.
I would have rated this higher if the filming and "special effects" were a lot better. If you are buying this to test your daughters interest in ballet, then get this. If you're just looking to buy something cute and fun for her, buy the Cinderella version instead. It's a better buy overall.
Customer Review: Great for young audiences Summary: 4 Stars
My 3 year old received this as a gift at Christmas and loves it. The autoplay feature on the DVD is great, she watched it through a few times before moving on to the next activity (ah Christmas... so many toys, so little time). She's adorable in the tutu (sold separately) although the slippers are a little big on her. Instead I let her play in socks, one pink, one purple to correspond to the colors on the mat. As for the video... well... it's enough to send the adults running from the room, but certainly appropriate for young audiences. It kept her attention and she actively participated. I was surprised because I half expected her to just sit and watch, but she jumped right in from the start. :)
If your little one loves playing dress up, and loves dancing (as most pre-k kids do) it's a good toy.
