Toys and Games Reviews of Air Hogs Havoc Heli - Colors May VaryCustomer Review: For a short blast of fun to break the monotony, you can't beat it. Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know how anyone has broken this thing, but I can't imagine anything taking the abuse I give it. I'm constantly hitting the ceiling and walls (especially the first couple of minutes after a charge) and my copter barely has a scratch. I've also found that if it lands on it's side, you can give a quick push on the throttle and it the rotor hitting the floor will make it right itself. Yea, it may be the lazy way, but it works and it shows how tuff the thing is. Although I was quick to grab it, the thing did survive my dog snatching it out of mid-air. To gain foward movement, I taped a paper clip to the front. It flies great!
My son and I took it outside for some night flying in zero wind. We had varying results as far as distance from the controller it could get (15 to about 60 feet high). One thing to remember is that once it loses the infared signal, the Havoc will drop like a dead bird. If you find a rare time that there's zero wind, just make sure you don't fly it above rooftops unless you want to take a chance on having to climb up to retrieve it. I think about 5 minutes of flight time is about as good as it gets with this copter.
Customer Review: Great heli for less than $30! Summary: 5 Stars
Spinmaster Air Hogs Havoc Heli (Colors May Vary)
I sympathize with the kid who never got to fly, but this thing come SECURELY taped down fore and aft. I've had this thing for less than a day and I have to admit I've been hard on it. The controls are VERY sensitive, surprisingly so for such a small heli. I've crashed more than a dozen times (I stopped counting) and it still flies!
When I was a kid my mother told me that if I got my money's worth out of something I bought then it was a good value. I consider this to be a good value, but I would only recommend it for older kids and adults!
I kept reading about short battery life, this is a relative thing. If you follow the directions and let the battery cool down for at least 10 minutes before recharging then a full charge will last about 8 minutes!
Slow charging time? 20 to 25 minutes!
Sure, control is difficult. What do you expect? This is NOT some high dollar radio-controlled precision helicopter, it's an inexpensive IR controlled TOY!
Customer Review: Amazing tiny helicopter Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased an Air Hogs RC helicopter for my college age son about eight months ago. He stayed up all night learning to fly and by morning he could make it go just about anywhere. He now flies it in his dorm at Ohio State University. It was such a great gift that I bought five more this Christmas.
The controller uses six AA batteries. The helicopter has a built-in lithium-polymer battery that recharges from the transmitter in 15-20 minutes, then flies 5-6 minutes on a charge. The tiny helicopter is amazing. It hovers in mid air like a mechanical insect. The helicopter is balanced to move slowly forward, and the controller gives you up-down and directional control. It takes some practice to get it to go where you want it to go, but that's part of the fun. The helicopter is very durable. After multiple crashes it still works fine. It is so light that it is unlikely to damage household objects in a crash.
In summary this is a great toy, fun to fly and fun to watch. It takes some coordination and practice to get good flights so it is not suitable for young children, but anyone over age 10 should enjoy it.
Customer Review: More fun than I ever expected. Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is surprisingly maneuverable! You simply must read the instructions and teach yourself how to use the trim settings. Do a quick search on YouTube and you will come up with many videos of people doing some really great flying with this thing.
The controls are simple. The left stick controls the throttle (altitude), and the right stick is the steering. By default the copter will move forward slowly once off the ground (provided your trim is set properly). To increase your forward speed, some sticker/weights are included which you can apply to the front of the copter, just under the nose. DO NOT USE A TAC OR SCREW AS THIS IS WHERE THE BATTERY IS STORED!!!
This is a really great deal at $30. Some things to note however. The Havoc Heli is extremely delicate and easy to break. It seems to come out of disastrous crashes unscathed, but if your dog gets a hold of it, or a toddler steps on it - it's good bye... Whats more, the copter takes about 20 minutes to charge and that will give you about 5 minutes of air time. Maybe buy two so you can have one charging while you are flying?
Customer Review: Half and Half Summary: 2 Stars
I have ordered this product twice. The first one I got in November and it was delivered in a very timely manner to my nephew in Virginia who absolutely loved it.
After seeing what a great gift it was, I ordered another one for my other nephew in Ohio, who happens to have his birthday the week before Christmas. I never received the second one. I emailed Blue Skies and got no response. I ended up having to use Amazon A to Z guaratee to get my money back. I am really sad because I know that my other nephew would have loved it too. But, more than that, because I am very late getting my nephew his birthday present. I kept hoping it would be delivered after all, and I have waited almost a month now. Now I am sending him a Game Stop gift certificate with a very sincere "so sorry about the belated birthday gift" note.
I won't order anything from Blue Skies in the future. Especially because they didn't respond to my email, and I had to file a claim to get my money back. However, I gave them 2 stars because of the first experience, but my lasting impression will be my last experience.
