Toys and Games Reviews of Air Hogs Havoc Heli - Colors May VaryCustomer Review: very cool, can be made better Summary: 5 Stars
First, this is a really cool toy. It is one of a very few rc flying toys that can be used indoors. It is so light that it can't hurt you unless you fly it into your eye. The rotor design makes it very stable, it looks very fragile, but mine has survived 30 or so flights, and lots of 10ft+ drops onto hard floors & into walls. There is something magic about watching something a little bigger than a humming bird floating around the room. Silverlit also makes the airace (rebranded to airhogs) which also flies well, but is an outdoor or very big room toy.
Rat shack and Toys are us have these for $40 and $30. Buy localy so that if it dosn't work it can be returned. I have had several of these, and they all fly, but some better than others. 10 min spent dynamicly ballancing the main rotor can really tame vibration. I also put a bigger tail (thin carbon fiber hoop held on with super glue an thread, with space blanket for fabric glued on with cotact cement) The bigger tail will make it much more stable, and also protect the tail rotor in a fall. Must be light. I rebuilt one with a new thin foam fuse that moves the rx and battery forward. (To go box foam) Now it really zips around with no added weight.
Customer Review: Best Toy This Year! Summary: 5 Stars
You can not go wrong with this as a gift (to someone over 7 years and under 94). Out of the box, it flies up and down and turns around. Adding weight to the nose will allow forward flight, but add weight slowly until you find a nice cruising speed.
Half throttle is all that's needed to get moving after a full charge. Any more and you might find yourself pinned to the roof.
This chopper is light weight, but amazingly strong. In my office, we have two flying and they've had a beating. Everyone has learned to fly on these two and they keep flying, crash after crash. Avoid showing it to large crowds, as everyone will want a turn, and that's a lot of crashes for your new best toy.
Any air movement will cause the little heli to be pushed around. Keep it away from windows, fans, a/c-heat vents, etc. to avoid unexpected flight paths. That said, an air stream moving in a constant direction in a large room can add lots of excitement.
Three channels allow for multiple aircraft flight, you can even attempt formation flying (actually very difficult as each causes the other to be pushed around).
This is a winner with anyone who enjoys r/c toys.
Customer Review: Greatest toy EVER! Summary: 5 Stars
Wow, this is an amazing toy, I can't believe that the little guy can fly and is so stable! Mine worked perfectly out of the box, was stable, flies great indoors. Takes a bit of time playing with it to get used to the controls, and starts out just hovering. To get some forward motion you need to bend the tail boom clockwise a bit when looking from the back toward the front of the helicopter or add a bit of weight to the front of the 'copter, both actions result in the 'copter tilting a bit forward and thus creating a bit of forward motion.
Note that this is a 2-channel copter, you control up/down and clockwise/counterclockwise rotation. With the technique described above you get a constant forward motion, and the clockwise/counterclockwise rotation can then turn you right and left.
This entertains adults for days (10 minutes at a time, 20 minute recharge, repeat) and is great fun for pestering cats and other indoor pets. A no-regret buy for yourself or anyone else who likes toys (kid or adult)
Update: I have seen this toy under several names, Silverlit Picoo Z, Picco Z, Micro X copter, Havoc Heli by Air Hogs. All are the same great toy!
Customer Review: Air Hogs Heli a lot of fun! Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased two of these helis; one for me and one for my brother enlaw as a gift. It is a lot of fun, but has a couple minor drawbacks. First the pros though. The Air Hog Heli is easy to use. It takes very little practice to fly it. Though the battery lasts only about ten minutes, it seems like a lot more time. My kids love to watch it fly. The cons are few, but important to consider. If you are looking for a precision flying machine, don't get this toy. Although you can control the height and general direction, it is far from precise. The other drawback is that it doesn't work outside. I'm not sure why, if it has something to do with the radio frequency or what, but I would love to fly it in my yard. Until I get something else, I have to use the Air Hog Heli in my family room. Fortunately I have tall ceilings. Don't worry about the durability. Unless you have a dog or small child go after it, this heli can withstand pleanty of crashes into walls and ceilings. But remember is it almost entirely styrofoam and plastic (it has to be really light weight) so it could potentially get squashed pretty easily.
Overall, this is a fun toy for a low cost!
Customer Review: Pretty bad out of box experience Summary: 2 Stars
OK, some of it was clearly my mistake, but I tried. First off, you do need batteries (re-read description on-line, yes 6 AA needed). Nothing on the box I could find said batteries were needed. My quick read suggested batteries were included (yes, the battery on the heli itself is provided).
Nothing sucks the energy out of two little kids then opening packages and discovering you don't have everything you need. Four batteries we had (thought I was ready for the unexpected) but not six. Dug up 2 more - didn't help much as they were kaput. Spent an hour finding and checking batteries until enough worked (but controller said they needed to be replaced ....).
Heli popped up and flew for a bit ... but adding the relative difficulty to flying it with the battery fiasco proceeding the flight - and they quickly decided it was not worth the effort (we bought two, one for each kid ....). New Lego XBox game saved the day.
Ugh. Yes - if I had done my parental due diligence, which I thought I had, it could have been better. Just say clearly on the box "6 AA batteries required - not included."
