Toys and Games Reviews of Air Hogs Havoc Heli - Colors May Vary

Customer Review: Only flaw: Requires common sense!
Summary: 5 Stars

A lot of people seem to misinterpret what they're getting for approx. 26 bucks. It IS a lot of fun as long as you don't expect the kind of control you'd have with a 200-dollar model. This chopper crashes into things. A lot. Best flight area is a large indoor space like a living room with minimal furniture and no air currents. On a full charge it's very difficult to even maintain a hover, much less influence (I say influence, not control) where it goes with the left/right rudder.. but once the battery has drained enough that you have maybe a minute left of charge on it, it's a lot easier to hover. Downside - drains WAY too fast. Upside - crashing it is OK! Foam + plastic construction means this little thing takes a serious beating and keeps flying. You'd have to step on it or let your dog get hold of it to really have to worry about losing your 25 bucks. No joke, it's slammed into window blinds, got caught behind computer monitors and dropped from the ceiling straight down onto the ground (back before I learned not to drop throttle suddenly) and it still works. As long as you don't BREAK THE TAIL by stepping on it (I haven't yet), or let your pets chew on it, or seriously mess up the rotors by continuing to apply throttle when it's bumping against something (best thing is to drop throttle and let it fall, it's designed for that), it'll last you a long time. Heck, even if you do break some of the rotors, you can order new ones here.

All in all, it's a good flyer for the non-hobbyists that just want something fun to play with (and don't feel like blowing a ton of cash). And if you DO sit on it, hey, you're only out 30 bucks. I ordered this while in Iraq and believe me, a little mindless fun goes a long way towards keeping your sanity here.

5 out of 5.

Customer Review: Raptor and his new heli
Summary: 4 Stars

i am 18 years old,i broken about eh 55+ RC stuff but mostly that doesn't matter. this heli is just the thing i needed.bout it at welmart for 30$+,and man i can tell you it works just the way i wantted to.i been a RC lover since i was 6 and i got my first RC toy.sure i took it apart and did alittle rewiring, but hey i was just a kid before then and the RC toy was like 6 in long. i called it Quick(mostly that was the car name in the first place, but what the heck.doesn't hurt to give something a name does it? lawl) read the rules/ put all 3 lables on the front of the chopper.then your all set.make sure you charge it till the *Green* light on the controller goes off, before useing the chopper.other then that i think it's works like a heli RC lover wants. when i get my next $$ in apl i'll be buying the other heli that's got the 2 boosters in the back to make it go front and revser('back').

Backround: how i know most of my stuff about RC toys,is because opening them up and seeing how they work is 1 thing, useing them is other. but when your a gamer/Real Life lover with jets/boats/cars/tanks/else,else. i mean it's mostly just how skillful you are in controling your RC unit, not on the unit, but 'you'!

i used the first airhog (this doesn't mean this unit.i mean the one that has a pad and you use 8 c batters and it only goes up and down) they came out with, and well..i can sure tell you up/down isn't the thing i was hopeing for (doesn't even stay in one spot for atleast 3 secs i mean up/down and wind,i would never take a heli in the back with a pool.yikes..) hope this is helpful for you all.even tho i don't know if your'll even listin.(sorry not trying to be mean, just saying most people don't even read the stuff on the chopper before they use it. >_> O.O) *waves* anyways peace!

Customer Review: You can get much better for much cheaper
Summary: 1 Stars

This is a 2-channel remote control helicopter, meaning that you can only control up/down throttle and yaw left/right. There is no way to control forward/reverse motion, nor is there a way to bank left/right. This heli leans forward naturally and will lazily drift forward in flight. To stop it from moving in one direction, you need to flip it around, at which point (obviously) it will begin moving in the other direction. The only way to get this thing to do anything that resembles a hover is to make it spin in place.

This feature set would be just fine on a $10 toy. But this thing is $40, and is made of plastic. The only pros I can see here are that the blades are light and floppy enough that they won't take much damage if you smack them into a wall.

For much less money, I would highly recommend a V-Max 6020-1 (do an eBay search for that). They go for around $26 and they have 3 channels of control (throttle up/down, yaw left/right, and pitch forward/reverse). They have coaxial blades (two counter-rotating rotors) for a true stable hover. They have metal frames. They come with USB charger cables so you don't have to keep wasting AA batteries charging the helicopter off of your controller. And best of all, they have built-in gyroscopes for added yaw stability during forward/reverse flight. In my opinion, they're the best helicopters you can buy for less than $90.

As an owner of the Havoc Heli, a Swift 6020-1, and a Walkera Lama2-1 (a 4-channel micro coaxial helicopter that goes for around $90), I can say with confidence that you would be wasting your time and money buying anything less than 3 channels, especially if you're paying 3 channel prices for a 2 channel heli.

Customer Review: Loads of fun- better than expected

Two things I was worried about in buying this-- flight dynamics and power. I still can't fly it worth a darn, but I bought it for my son, and he's cruising it around the room as we speak. It's a little odd in how it controls forward/backward flight (it doesn't have cyclic control), but in truth, it's easier to fly as a result. Based on my son's performance, it works well. Another oddity is that it uses a separate motor in the rear for the tail rotor, but it seems to be programmed well for stability. You will have to actually fly it, of course; no helicopter without a lot more onboard equipment will ever be hands off in flight, but this one is much easier than other far more expensive radio helis I've flown.

As for power, it takes off and climbs like crazy if you aren't careful-- the first skill to learn is getting it off the ground, and the second is not running into the ceiling! There's plenty of power in between for flight, and the motor speed control is progressive enough for fine control in hover and cruise. As usual with r/c helis, it doesn't have any separate collective control, but it doesn't need it.

So it's purpose is fun, and it's a blast to play with, though the cats are perplexed. I agree that letting it cool in between flights is a challenge, but with a lithium battery in it, that's required. I was skeptical at the idea of six minutes flight time, but we're actually seeing about eight minutes. Credit the lithium battery and incredibly lightweight construction, and because of the battery, you get good power right up until the end of the charge. All in all, a nice little heli- I may well get another.

Customer Review: easy, completely controlable, fun, and awesome

a word of advice... WEIGHT the front of the copter and USE the trim!

i bought this helicopter expecting to use it for about 2 days before getting tired of it. I was totally wrong! Before flying it for the first time, I read some reviews telling me to weight the front. I added the 3 silver sticker weights to the nose and wings and superglued 2 pins to the nose. They add weight and look like machine guns :). After this I charged it up and set it off on its maiden voyage and was absolutely AMAZED at how well it flies and how precisely it does what you tell it to. I was able to master the controls on the first flight and by using the trim button to straighten it out, i was able to completely control the copters height AND direction very easily! I flew up the stairs, around my dad's head, and several inches from my dog's face, both chasing and outmaneuver him for a few minutes before i flew too low and got chomped right out of the air lol... i was surprised to see that there was not a scratch on the copter after this!

After a few more flights by me and my friends i got a little reckless and broke the main rotor, but some super glue and scotch tape fixed it right up in 10 minutes and the copter still flies like new!

VERY durable, completely controlable, safe, fun, surprisingly long battery life, and easy... after about 4 flights i was able to avoid collision altogether and switch between forward flight and hover at my leisure... the best $25 ive spent in a LONG time and hands down the best radio control device ive ever used! id definitely spend $50 on it without a second thought!
