This thing is pretty funny.
Pros-
-entertaining for children-DD got this when she was almost 2, still plays with it occasionally a year later. Niece (18 months) thinks it's hilarious and loves it when she visits.
-good for stacking
-works with all of the pieces or none on it
Cons-
-little loud, no volume adjust (if you don't like loud toys with vaguely annoying sounds--i would NOT get this one)
-goes off easily if bumped (it was going off as I wrapped the thing for christmas!!) and it plays for a little while (enough that you're cringing if you've got a sleeping child)
-Not sure about the rhythms, etc...supposedly it's educational--you can change the sounds by turning the rings...but DD has never really 'got' that and doesn't really play with it that way.

My mom bought this for my son at a garage sale brand-new for $1. We thought the moving motor was broken, and I'm guessing the original owners did, too. When the "Shelcore Extra Heavy Duty" batteries died and were replaced with Energizers, the movement motor started to work. REPLACE YOUR BATTERIES immediately if you want the movement to work from the beginning. The Shelcore batteries are too weak to power the motor.
My son, husband and I are all amused by the sounds it makes, they're very different than most other musical toys and entertaining. However, my son is now terrified of the sound of the motor and doesn't like to play with this toy unless someone is sitting very nearby. Its not very noticible unless the toy is laying on its side and having a little boy, the toys are almost always flipped over.

If you buy this toy, find it somewhere else. Mine came from Toy Town and never worked. I changed the batteries and then changed them again and it still didn't work. The box had been open and it's my opinion that they sent me a bad one to start with. I called and I e-mailed them over and over everyday since Christmas and I still haven't gotten a response. Finally after much arguing Amazon said they would credit my account. I now notice that Toy Town is selling the same toy for 10 dollars more. Guess I was the unlucky person to get scammed by them sending me one that never worked. Beware. As far as it working? I have no idea since mine never did.Customer Review: Disappointed

I purchased two of these as gifts for children in the family. The box says you can make up to 125 different songs. Maybe it should read 10 different sounds. The toy seems to have a mind all its own. It makes noise rather your playing with it or not and it makes the same music over and over. We've tried rotating the rings, removing a ring and pressing on the head, all which the directions say will give you different results. No matter what it does the same thing over and over. I ordered other toys made by Shelcore and I would say about 3/4 of the toys I ordered made by this same manufacturer do not work.Customer Review: cute, I guess

This is a cute little thing. The head is really soft. It moves around even, on some settings, on some wheels it has underneath. Some of the tunes are cute to listen to and some too repetetive, but sometimes, in the middle of the night it will "wake up" and start singing to us out of nowhere and we have to go put it in the garage to get some sleep! If only there were an on/off switch it wouldn't be a problem. (That is annoying.) Also, you can only stack the rings on in the right order. No big dissapointments. Pretty cute little thing, and mostly cute sounds. (Just not at 3:00am.)
