Customer Review: Great Set Of Keepsake Marbles...

I came across this set of marbles here on Amazon while browsing recently. I remember getting this exact set for my nephew at a craft store quite a few years back. He was into playing marbles in those days. And like all of us at some time in our youth, he also enjoyed collecting them as well. He was pretty good in trading them and setting aside the very best as special, and retiring them to a coveted place in his room. These "collectable" ones would never see any dirt or holes in the ground, nor be traded away to a strange home. (He even had a much sought after, and for me personally, legendary "steely" which I never quite was able to get my hands on in my younger days). When I gave him this solar system set with the jumbo galaxy marble included, he test drove them briefly on the carpet, and then made the unprecedented decision to retire the whole set immediately. They were just too darn pretty and detailed to be part of the working peasant crowd of playing marbles. I remember him setting them down in a small bowl in his room that was part of some baseball trophy he had. And that was pretty much the last time I saw or heard of them again...Untill
Just not too long ago, my sister and her husband bought a new house and I was "volunteered" to help them move. My nephew, who was by then going on 17, was there as well. (Doing a lot more loafing then anything else, but thats another story). I happen to go into his room during one of my dozens of excursions that day, and I remember seeing the small trophy on a shelf, and there in the tray were the marble universe I had given him so many years ago. I asked him about them, and learned that when he started to outgrow the marble stage, he discarded all of the other ones he had saved, (even the steely, which I would have still paid him to get) but he had decided to keep the universe set for he thought they were still so cool looking. I remember we took them out of the tray and gave them a very much needed sponge bath, just to restore them to their original luster. It was actually quite the moment, of you know what I mean. Far as I know, he still has them.
But enough sentimentality...(sniff). This set here on Amazon is the exact same ones I gave to my nephew. The detail on them, and especially the colors, are much more vibrant than the picture gives them credit for. And I also have to add that like the other couple of reviewers here, I also did not experience any paper or strange gunk on any of the marbles like the one reviewer here encountered. They were clean and shiny right out of the box. The only thing I was disappointed in with these marbles was that they stopped at Mars, instead of extending the set to include the entire solar system. But they are still very worth it for what they are asking here on Amazon. And the jumbo galaxy marble is especially nice.
There is no guarantee of course that these marbles will become a keepsake in your own family like it appears to be on my own. However I would very much recommend these finely detailed and vibrant marbles as a present for any small child old enough to not eat them, and they could also be considered as a fine stocking stuffer when Christmas time comes around. Get a set for your own kid, nephew, or other marble enthusiast, and watch them enjoy...
