Toys and Games Reviews of Scrabble Premier Wood EditionCustomer Review: Scrabble Premier Wood Edition Summary: 4 Stars
The game is just as you would expect - great! It is handsome enough to leave out on a gaming table as a piece of furniture and some of the features of this "premier" wood edition are quite nice - the look of the wood, the ease of turntable functionality, the fit of tiles into the board squares without shifting, the easy-to-read black letters on white tiles, the tile holders and "hour glass" timer, and the scoring sheets. What I found not so nice is the slipperiness of the tiles - dry hands in winter do not make holding these without dropping them easy. Also, the tiles too easily "fit" under the rotating turntable, which is a hassle when they try to go hide, because you may not notice them disappearing and if you do, the desirable non-skid feet on the board also make it hard to move the board to retrieve them. The color scheme on the board itself was a bit hard for me to get used to compared to the classic game, though I suspect this will pass with continued use. It would be nice to have the drawer do double-duty as a place to store tiles during game play but the space is comparmentalized for storage of the various pieces between use and dosen't have enough room to have all the tiles fit in as a single layer. The felt covered storage area surface also doesn't lend itself to "stirring" the tiles to mix them up either, so we're left spreading them out on the table, where they can get knocked off, spilled on, etc. For this price, I would have expected a bit more engineering forethought (no, I'm not an engineer!), and a built in digital Scrabble Dictionary (hint for future developers).
Customer Review: i liked scrabble premier wood edition Summary: 4 Stars
My family and I have been playing scrabble for over 50 years. This edition is very good to excellent for the following reasons: 1. The letter tiles are smooth, heavy plastic and feel like mah jongg tiles. They feel good to hold, much better than the old wood tiles. Also, because they are white, instead of the old tan tiles, they can easily be seen when we drop them on the oriental rug where we play. 2. The storage drawer is very convenient to use and to hold the game parts and the note books we use to keep score. They are over twenty five years old. 3. Unlike other models, this edition can be left out, without having to put it in a box, another convenience. 4. The raised surfaces between the squares on the board make it more difficult to dislodge the tiles, should someone jostle the board. Changes I would like to see: 1. a larger turntable that moves more easily. 2. A return to the color scheme used on the older "classic" boards. I see no reason to change the colors on the double and triple letter and word squares. The new colors are dull; the former brighter and more cheerful.
Finally, while I really enjoy scrabble, the height of this board (owing to the storage box) makes it more difficult to see the entire board clearly. I suspect we will get used to it. (This probably does not affect tall people.) If not we can go back to an older board.
Customer Review: Excellent Game for Family, Friends, Fun - Beautiful Set Summary: 5 Stars
What you have here is one fine game. Classic, traditional, great for all ages, and, in the case of this set, extremely attractive.
Know a bunch of words? Short ones? Long ones? Skinny ones? Know any big fat words you just can't use anywhere else? Use them here. Show off how big your vocabulary is, and that you know how to use it. Of course, there are rules about which ones count, but mostly, regular words are OK. Just nothing with capitals or foreign words, unless of course, you are from somewhere else, but then, they aren't foreign any longer, are they?
Order up a serving of Scrabble. Figure out if you need this version or the deluxe version (which is mighty cool.) This version is, as it says, 'premier'. More than the deluxe version, this one is beautiful left on a coffee table, much like a traditional wood chess set.
When you get the game in the mail, call up some friends, turn on some tunes, crack open something tasty and cold, and start munching a few chips. This ain't a game you gotta be smart to play. I've seen guys who only know small words, but they could see the best ways to use them. Vocabs don't win the game. Thinking on your feet will win the game.
I fully recommend Scrabble.

Customer Review: Of course that's how you spell kat. Summary: 5 Stars
Great game. My only problem is that I cannot spell worth a darn. My only hope is that I can spell obscure and exotic words.
Luckily, there is more to this game than just spelling or you could play hangman. There is the strategy to get the most points from the least letters. There is the stratagem of out foxing the other players by not leaving any openings to play. Then there are the double and triple word scores. Being stuck with the "Q" after all the "U's" are used and no weird dictionary is like being stuck with "The Old Maid" (Disney's 102 Dalmatians Cruella Old Maid Card Game ASIN: B000052019) You cunningly exchange it when you are sure there are no more letters to take.
I have played this game with two players. However, this takes the angst out of having your next play foiled at the last minute and finding that the alternative play has evaporated also.

Customer Review: Worth the Benjamins Summary: 5 Stars
When the air starting getting crisp and chill, thoughts of lighting the fireplace and drinking hot cocoa and playing scrabble entered my thoughts, daily. We went to a local box store, but, didn't really like the newest edition and although the Onyx edition looked pretty sly, we wanted something "Old School".
The Scrabble Premier Wood Edition looked very high-end.Not just a board. This edition has it all. Storage, inside, and a Lazy Susan that spins with ease. It may sound cheesy but it's true, you can leave it out and it compliments the room. I purchased mine thru Amazon.com it arrived in about 2 days (unscathed) and we lit the fireplace and used it that night.
My husband, after commenting that it looked very nice, very well constructed, asked,"how much?" "I said, don't forget, we will have it for years and years," "how much ?" "I told him, well, a little under 5 benjamins" He said, O.K. I said, "Why, O.K.?" "Because, it will last for years and years, Happy Holidays".
