Toys and Games Reviews of Scientific Explorer's My First Dinosaur Science KitCustomer Review: FUN, but it would help if it came with all the pieces! Summary: 3 Stars
My daughter (8) is a huge dinosaur nut, so this was the first thing she wanted to open and play with when we finished our early christmas. It's a lot of fun, the plaster mold is neat and really forces the child to take their time with the excavation. The educational aspects of this toy are fantastic as well. The reason I give it only 3 stars is because it didn't come with all the described pieces! My kit was missing the eye glasses and the "grow" dino. We got the "glow in the dark" dino and the plaster kit and tools. It was kind of weird having to explain to my daughter that Santa brought a toy that didn't have all the parts.
But if your luck is better than mine, you will probably really like this!

This was a present from Santa to a 5 1/2 yr old girl. Her best friend is a 6 yr old boy. They had a great time with this gift. I have a 10yr old girl who wanted to play with this gift as well.
There isn't much to the box. There are safely goggles , a paint brush, tool for carving (it will take forever with that tool) and there is only 1 so get something else that scrapes. The final item is a hard block of nothing. The hard block is what you have to scrape to dig out the bones.
The 5 and 6 yr old needed help with the project. After 2 hrs they are still at it and havent lost interest.
This was a great gift. More to write after we try to grow a dino!
Customer Review: A great activity for children interested in dinosaurs Summary: 4 Stars
I got this kit for my 3 1/2 year old boy who also worked relentlessly on it for hours! (you can speed up the digging process by wetting the mud, but it takes away from the fun). I (the adult) broke a bone because I got impatient :(
you can glue the skeleton together with superglue, but it is for display only, not to play with.
you can really make this a great "rainy day" activity, take pictures while your child digs and then create an "exposition" with the photos and the glued together dinosaur. We called our "Dylanosaurs" after its "finder", my son Dylan!
Customer Review: Wish I could give 0 stars Summary: 1 Stars
This was such a waste of money. While digging out the fossil, the bones would break. Besides that, the excavating took so long that my son lost interest. When we finally got all the pieces out, we couldn't even put it together. The glue was not good enough to keep it together. Same thing for the glow in the dark dinosaur. It don't stay together even with super glue. This was the worst thing that I have ever bought. I should have saved the money and taken my son to a museum.
Customer Review: He loved it! Summary: 5 Stars
My son loves dinosaurs! He had a BLAST with this toy, but we had to help him cause he didn't understand why it was just a rock, but after he figured out there was dino bones in it there was no stopping him. The little tools inside of it were cool, it had glasses and neat things. However, I would recommend find a large box cut in half, or a really good vaccuum, to play with it cause the rock chips away into small pieces. It was a really cool thing to do with my son.
