I had one of these for my kids when they were little (all grown now), and my grand kids (ages 3 and 1) are enjoying it just as much. There is just something fascinating about watching the little penguins go around and around the track. I bought this penguin one for my year-old grandson who is now three. He would play with it for hours picking the penguins up and replacing them on the track. I removed the cardboard banner while he was playing with it as it hindered him being able to easily replace the penguins onto the track. He is now three and still plays with it.
His younger brother is a different story. He loves it just as much and I used it as a "mobile" for him when he was an infant. I would set the Penguin Race on a nightstand or dresser where he would be entertained until he drifted off to sleep. However, he is VERY rough with his toys and therefore cannot play with this toy without direct supervision or he would break it. Therefore I sit with him while he plays with it.
This is not a durable toy that you can just let young children play with as it can be easily broken by rough play. But all children seem to be mesmerized by it and enjoy taking the penguins off the track and replacing them. You just have to adjust the supervision according the child. I have even found adults like to play with it!
For the umpteen hours of enjoyment my kids and grand kids have gotten from this toy, it has been well worth it. I also use it as a Christmas decoration under the Christmas tree or in a "Toyland" display for the holidays.
