Toys and Games Reviews of Scene It? Twilight Deluxe EditionCustomer Review: Good Fun for Twihards Summary: 4 Stars
My boyfriend bought this for me as a birthday present - he knew I'd been thinking about buying it as a Christmas present for a friend so I could play it too!
The game is pretty simple - roll the die, answer a trivia question, DVD question, or take a fate card (all of which seem to tell you to move ahead one space), and try to be the first to the final round (the Twilightning Round!) and answer the question or questions correctly. With two players, the game goes pretty quickly. I made my boyfriend play three games with me (I only won two out of three!), and it only took a little over half an hour. Playing with three girlfriends, one game lasted about that long.
The questions can be pretty tough. For example, some of the trivia questions will ask you what a character said at a particular moment. If the other players are real sticklers, it can be hard to remember lines word for word. The DVD questions vary from tough trivia to mini-games where an object, person, word, or place is revealed a little at a time, so speed is the main factor. There's no buzzing in, so you've got to pay attention to who shouts out the answer first. I had a little trouble with the questions that require you to put scenes in order. I don't know if it was my remote or the game, but I couldn't get the things selected before time was up.
Peter Facinelli narrates the game. The first time you play, his voice will incite giggles (see what happens when you set the game up for play but don't take a turn immediately - you'll get a hilarious "Hey, hurry up, I'm not getting any younger...I'm not getting any older, either" comment from Carlisle!). However, after a few games the narration can get on your nerves, since the same instructions are repeated over and over again. Also, given that this game is about just one movie (though I do think they sneak in some trivia that you wouldn't know if you hadn't read the book), the trivia can get repetitive, with the same question basically asked different ways. There are apparently only 15 "games" to play - I don't know if that means that I can only play fifteen times before the questions all repeat, but I doubt I'll play that many times anyway. The game is good entertainment for serious Twihards, but a few rounds and you should be satisfied.
Customer Review: Save your money Summary: 1 Stars
Please don't waste your money on this game. It is so easy that anyone who has seen the movie once could answer the questions. I think even 'tweens will be bored with it after one use. Game play moves real fast since the board is small. If you roll high, you will have a winner in about 10 minutes. The fate cards are stupid - all they do is move you ahead or behind few spaces. The DVD questions are really obvious and the "games" are very easy. Oh and the "which Cullen are you" quiz is dumber than a Facebook quiz.
If you do insist on buying it, don't waste your time studying real trivia like what order the vamps bat in when they play baseball or what is written on the side of the school buses for the field trip. Nothing like that is asked. The most difficult question is what building is pictured next to the school? And the only reason that was difficult is because I never noticed it before. If you can name the actors and have seen the movie, there is absolutely no challenge to the game.
Shame on the makers for rushing this to market just to collect fan's money. We should all ask for a refund and make our own, becuase I guarentee that would be more difficult and way more fun.
Customer Review: Great gift for the Twilight fan(s) in your household Summary: 4 Stars
Bought this as a gag gift for my wife as she, seemingly like all the other millions of females, has read all the books and seen the movies (ahem, multiple times).
Unfortunately, the joke was on me; as she insisted I play it! Overall, it's in the same vane as the other SceneIt DVD-based games - roll 2 dice, move number of spaces on die 1, take chance/fate card or answer Twilight trivia question or watch DVD movie clip. Lather, rinse, repeat until game is won by said wife... resulting in fateful cheery uttering: "Again?" :-)
Couple of points:
1) My wife loves the dvd mode where the movie clips and dvd questions are asked without interaction - she fully intends to use this at the next hosted "Girls night"...
2) DVD works fine on standalone Toshiba DVD player, Xbox360 and PS3
Some say this is a flagrant money-maker for SceneIt and so what? It's fun, and if they make a few bucks, then great - it's got more repeat value than a lot of the other memorabilia and make my whole family laugh a number of times.
Customer Review: OK Summary: 4 Stars
I'm a big fan of the Scene It? games so of course when twilight came out I had to have it being a fan of both the books and the movies. The game itself was fun the only problem I had was the game board's length. The boards for all the rest of mine Scene it games were much lager. Because this game board was so small it didn't present much of a challenge. Heck if you rolled a 6 tiwce you had covered the board. With games like this you challenge your friends to see who's the biggest fan but with a board this small there was no thrill of close calls or trying to catch up to another player. Now I sort of fixed this problem on my own, when we play we use one of the other scene it boards we keep the pieaces and everything else the same we just use a lager board so make it more interesting. I defentley recomend buying the game for the triva and clips are awesome and as long as you have a larger board or make a rule about having to go twice around the board before tring the play to win it will ba a great addition to your scene it collection.
Customer Review: Not up to Scene It Standards Summary: 2 Stars
As a mother of 6 kids we have a lot of games. And the favorite at our house are those in the Scene It Series. So when my older girls saw Twilight was coming out I bought it. We played for the first time last night and I was sorely disappointed. The game board is small, not like the other game boards in the Scene it line. The tokens were made of cheap plastic, not the usually metal. Trying to overlook the cheapness we played anyway. It took us about 15 minutes to finish the game. The questions were not overly hard or creative. I agree with other users who think the die are not made well. We also hit on the fate card the majority of the game. For the die-hard fan it will entice you for about 15 minutes, long enough to play one game. My hope is that if New Moon ever hits the Scene it world it will be of better quality and up to the standards I have come to expect from Scene It products. (We have multiple Harry Potter Scene Its, Disney Scene It, Nickelodeon Scene It, Scene It Junior, to name a few.)
