Toys and Games Reviews of Dilbert: Escape from CubevilleCustomer Review: Escape is a therapeutic & funny game for frazzled office workers Summary: 4 Stars
Whether your manager resembles the Pointy-Haired Boss or Bill Lumbergh, they are the last person you want to see on Friday afternoon. Dilbert: Escape from Cubeville captures the sheer panic that comes from trying to get out of the office as your boos searches for a "volunteer" to work the weekend.
The game materials - cubicle tiles, game pieces and player cards - are surprisingly sturdy and well made. I wrote an Amazon review for Othello, pointing out that cheap construction can make or break a game, especially a classic board game like Clue or Monopoly.
Getting back to Dilbert: Escape from Cubeville, gameplay begins by placing all 49 tiles in a 7x7 grid. The object is to cross from one side of the grid to the other, drawing and playing cards for each turn. Simple enough, right? Well, each turn involves rotating tiles to advance across the cubicle maze while directing the point-haired boss on the trail of your opponents. You often find your character trapped in a cubicle with the Pointy-Haired Boss advancing quickly.
Our family of four completed our first game in about 25 minutes. No game has lasted longer than an hour.
KEY POINTS:
* Two-player games are not nearly as much fun as four-player games.
* The game concept best suits mature audiences. Young children and teenagers likely won't appreciate the underlying humor here.
* Dilbert: Escape from Cubeville would make a great couples night game. In fact, I'd highly encourage you to play this game while playing Dilbert: The TV Series or Office Space in the background.
In summary, Dilbert: Escape from Cubeville is a fun, short (less than an hour) game that best fits adult foursomes.
Rating: Four stars.
Description of Dilbert: Escape from CubevilleThe Maze Game of Manipulation and Coercion!
It's Friday afternoon, and the Pointy-Haired Boss is looking for a "volunteer" to work over the weekend. In this exciting twist on traditional board games, players choose Dilbert, Alice, Wally or Asok and race opponents through a maze of office cubicles. Visiting the break room is easy and may seem like a good place to hide, but beware; just like in most offices, the Pointy-Haired Boss frequents the break rooms often. Dilbert: Escape from Cubeville's 60 Movement Cards allow players to manipulate the Cubicle Tile game board, ensuring a different game every time it's played. With more changes than a corporate re-org, players clear their own path or block another player's passage, all while avoiding the Pointy-Haired Boss! Remember - the sooner you escape the office, the sooner your weekend begins! Based on the popular comic strip "Dilbert," Escape from Cubeville is a comical twist on traditional strategy games. Players take control of Dilbert, Alice, Wally, or Asok as they try to navigate their way through a maze of cubicles. Designed for ages 13 and older, and featuring Dilbert-themed game pieces and classic Dilbert comic panels, Escape from Cubeville is a must-have for any fan of white-collar America's favorite comic strip. | Dilbert Escape from Cubeville Game Ages: 8+

View larger. | Escape the Office to Save Your Weekend Escape from Cubeville drops you straight into the Dilbert universe. The game features a complete back-story: it's a Friday afternoon, and the sadistic Pointy-Haired Boss (PHB) is looking for a "volunteer" to work over the weekend. It's up to you to evade the PHB and make your way out of the office in time. The game begins by randomly arranging the 49 "cubicle" tiles in a 7x7 grid, which forms the maze. Setting up the tiles properly can take a couple of minutes, and can sometimes become a bit tedious. But since the tiles are shuffled and placed randomly, you'll never play through the same maze twice -- each game experience is unique. Once the cubicle maze has been set up, it's a race to escape the dreariness of office life. Each player selects a starting point and begins navigating their way through the maze, from one side to the other. You move around the board by playing movement cards, which tell you how many spaces you can advance. Be careful, though: your opponents can play special cards that rotate tiles and throw you off course. This adds an element of strategy to the game. With each turn, you can manipulate the maze to clear your own path or obstruct an opponent's path. You can even deliver them right into the PHB's clutches -- cutthroat corporate competition at its finest. Classic Dilbert Humor Escape from Cubeville has been designed to capture the satirical edge of Dilbert. You'll be able to take control of your favorite Dilbert character as you race to escape the office. Whether you're slacking off as Wally or fighting for recognition as Alice, you'll be laughing while playing this game. Each of the movement cards also features a classic Dilbert comic strip, so you can enjoy your favorite strips while playing. Even the game-play itself is appropriately ruthless and corporate. It's a complete Dilbert experience. What's in the Box 49 cubicle tiles, 60 movement cards, PHB mover, 4 player movers, 4 exit tokens, instruction sheet, and six-sided Dilbert die.
