Customer Review: SET 'Em Up!
Summary: 4 Stars
I originally purchased SET 5 years ago when I taught technology education to students with special needs. I was doing a unit on game creation, and wanted the students to experience a lot of different games before they created their own. The game is not terribly hard, but it is also not a cake-walk. You're challenged to create groups of 3 matching symbols: they either have to ALL have the characteristic, or have NONE of a characteristic. The descriptive features include colors, shape, fill and number. For many of my students with visual learning disabilities, this game was confusing and tough. My students with autism spectrum disorders enjoyed the game, however, especially if they were skilled at "seeing pictures", and because the game did not require a high amount of socialization. The company has a website that, at one point, allowed you
to download a computer version of the game.

The game SET is really a diamond in the rough. With all of today's video games, talking this & that and animatronic do-dads, Set is a great source of entertainment for all.
General Commentary:
- Ideal for groups of small (1) to medium size (5 or so).
- I normally play in a group of 20 somethings
Benefits:
- Great for mind stimulation.
- Great for younger (learning colors, numbers, shapes, etc) and older kids alike
Caveats:
- With older "kids", the game can get a bit competitive
- At times, the game gets very close to a game of Hot Hands and it's a matter of who can get there faster -- with apprehension anytime anyone moves a muscle
- Not good for car rides or playing outside in potentially windy areas
Overall:
- The game is wonderful, but can get a bit competitive and a little addictive.

SET is a great game. I am always looking for games that will challenge all players at the same time. With children, it sometimes gets boring to wait for their turn. This does not happen with SET. All players are searching for "sets of three cards" at the same time. A friend of mine has an educational game and bookstore. When she was approached to carry this title, she called me up and requested the kids and I play the game and let her know our thoughts. We loved it! Do not be amazed if your child beats you many times ~ as they have clear minds, which is necessary to be successful at SET. We have taken this game on many vacations, as well as played it on the front porch or kitchen table. You will love SET if you are a gamer. Enjoy!

Customer Review: Addictive Family Favorite

This game was under our Christmas tree two years ago and has not ceased to be a favorite past time. We enjoy the fun challenge as a family or you can play it alone. This game has also helped with artistic development. I don't know how to explain this part of my review, so I hope you can understand what I'm saying. My 12 year old daughter and I have been quilting this year. When I was trying to explain how to match fabrics when putting a block together, she said, "It's sorta like SET". Your artistic eye becomes trained in the process to blend matching or contrasting patterns in color, shape or texture. I can see how this game has really helped my children when designing an art project. Educational or not, we've enjoyed this game since day one. The price is excellent considering how much entertainment it has provided. It has never collected dust at the top of the closet.

SET is one of my favorite games! I bought three of them over the holidays as, whenever we play with someone new, we have "hooked" SET player -- we've given away several of our own games of SET.
This game is an excellent choice for family fun -- ages ranging from pre-school to mature adults. It also is amazingly suited to children and adults who are mentally challenged or with learning disabilities.
It's a challenging game of pattern recognition and one of the most entertaining, easy-to-play games for a group or classroom.
SET makes a great gift choice for birthdays, host gifts, holidays, congratulations celebrations, teachers -- and it's makes a wonderful family gift. Do what I do -- buy a few to keep SET Gameon hand for last minute gift giving!
