Customer Review: Thoughtful fun for the whole family

I bought this after a friend of mine showed them to me, but I was taken aback by the price at first. It's just a pile of cards printed with conversation-starting questions. But, I have to say, the fact that they are preprinted and stacked in a clear cube really works. We keep them at the dinner table, and if conversation lags (or gets too heated) we grab a card and get opinions from everyone. Our kids are 4 and 8 right now, and they're excited when their time comes to give an opinion. When we have guests over, they'll almost always pick up the box and start reading cards, so it works in that context, too.
Now that we have one set, I'd appreciate if we could buy just the cards and re-use the acrylic cube rather than paying for it each time, but as it is, this is great fun and thought-provoking.

When I got this, my boyfriend had just returned from a 13 month tour in Iraq and we needed to get to know each other again. I opted for the family edition, but probably should have gotten the original because there are a lot of questions geared towards children and school or rules. I'll keep it, and when my son is old enough, it'll be fun to review the questions and get his point of view. It's a fun product that I now keep in my office at work. During slower periods, people will come in my office just to pull a card and start a converstation. I highly recommend getting one of the Table Topic editions. In the age of texting and IM, a good verbal conversation sometimes needs a jump start and these cards are handy.Customer Review: Not just for conversation!

This is a great product for starting discussions, while at the dinner table or elsewhere. It makes kids think about things they may not normally think about and gives parents a peek into their child's brain. It is interesting to hear some of the responses my son comes up with. It is also a convenient way to give your child a topic to write about for an essay or in a journal. If they write about it, you can hold onto it and look back years from now and get a good laugh or cry. A little bit expensive, but the plastic case is extremely sturdy and makes it look nice if you keep it at the dining table. Also a good conversation starter with your spouse or an small friendly gathering. A simple idea with a lot of uses!Customer Review: I was disappointed

I was disappointed in the topics of the cards. I hesitate to write this review because apparently many people loved this product. I guess I was hoping for topics that we already didn't discuss and that would open dialog more. It is great that you can randomly just pick a card and talk about it though so it isn't a total waste. I think if it were a little cheaper I would be happier as I would feel that it was worth the price even if we only used it occasionally.
A great way to use this is in the car on long drives. The kids can pick the card and read the topic. Far better than video games, in my opinion. But we don't like to use it just sitting a the table at dinner.

I purchased these cards as a means of speech therapy that would be fun for my 10 year old son. He struggles with verbalizing his thoughts so often he will remain silent rather than engage in conversation at the dinner table. Now if things get quiet at dinner he points to the conversation cube and requests new questions. Discussing why we chose the answer that we did has been enlightening and produced lively conversations. My husband gets so excited about his answer sometimes that he has to be reminded that he needs to wait his turn to speak. If I were young I would be memorizing a block of these questions before each date as a tool to learn more about other person.
