Customer Review: A good purchase

I am intrigued by the rave reviews. While I do like this game, I would not rate it quite so highly as some of the other reviewers.
The principle is simple and easy to learn in minutes. Use a spare maze piece and push the columns of maze pieces in different directions to move your game piece through the maze to help you acquire your treasure and prevent others from attaining theirs. Then high tail it back to your starting spot to win. This can be challenging as others will try and stop you by shifting the maze.
Figuring out how to shift the maze to your advantage can be a little bit of a challenge sometimes, even for adults. It requires the ability to look a couple moves ahead, and even with excellent planning, by the time the turn comes back to you, the maze can look completely different.
I gave this game to my niece who is a very smart 7 year old. I believe the box states it is for 8 and above. She was unable to figure out how to play the game at first, as she was unable to think that far ahead with shifting maze pieces that go in two different directions on every other column. The game instructions have "kid's rules" which allow a child to collect the treasure in any order they wish, which allows them to go after the treasure which is closest to them rather than on the other side of the board. After she started using these new rules, she was able to play the game on her own and be successful.
I did enjoy the game, and so did my family. I am sure I will play it again. It is solidly built, with thick cardboard tiles, and I was satisfied with the purchase. But it is also a bit too simple to be one of my all time favorite games. I am the type of person who likes complicated games, like axis and allies, where there are tons of pieces on the board, and it takes half of the day to discuss different strategies and options. So, perhaps most of the people reading this review won't relate to me and will think this is one of their personal all time favorite games after they purchase it. But I was a little bit bored by it after a short time.
All in all, an above average game which most will enjoy.

This unique game has won the hearts of millions of game players for over 20 years. The beautifully artistic playing cards determine the quest for your treasure. Looking for the dragon? How many routes could you possibly take? And most of all, how can you foil your opponents? Each player tries to gain the advantage over the other players by inserting the extra tile to move walls and open passages of the Labyrinth. Block and advance is the name of the game! The first player to reach all of the various treasures and return to the starting point wins!The aMAZEing Labyrinth uses a clever board design to create a series of ever-changing mazes that one to four players must move through. The object of the game is for each player to collect as quickly as possible all seven treasures depicted on their individual treasure cards. To add to the challenge, players know what the next treasure is only after they find the one before it. Before each turn, a maze card is pushed into the maze in a strategic place, helping the player make his or her way to the prize. This means that the entire maze shifts and changes on each turn, confounding some and helping others. Players will need to think ahead to choose just the right spot to shift the maze in their favor. This is an excellent game to get lost in. A simpler version can be played by younger children. --Lee Strucker
