This is a great wagon that is time tested through the decades. I had one back over 40 years ago and they are just as strong as they where then. I bought this as a Christmas present for my fiance and she just loves it. No she's not a kid but she loves to garden and the radio flyer is just what she wanted to hall flowers and such to her garden. She is a kid at heart and has no problem pulling it through grass or any place else unless of course your yard is muddy or soggy.
Thin wheels or terrain wheels? Well either is fine but to be a true Radio Flyer it should have thin wheels and to be honest a wagon is for your kids to hall things in not hall your kids around in. You can hall them but don't expect this to be a nice soft ride it's not a station wagon that halls passengers so yes it is hard on the bottom and no shock absorbers if you do hall the kids put a sponge padding with a blanket on the bottom of the wagon when you pull the kids this should make it comfortable for them.
It only took me an 20 minutes to put together hehe remember I have had one before and tore it apart and put it together many times as a kid.
Those who are not mechanically inclined may take an hour but it really is easy to assemble.
The wagon comes neatly packed with everything (you guessed it) in the wagon bed. Nothing really complicated about putting it together although if you are better at reading instructions then this could be a problem because it is a picture diagram booklet on what goes where, but it's not a crazy complicated diagram. Step by step easy to see and understand diagram.
It is a little heavy and made out of sturdy steel so yes don't let your kid just leave it out in the rain just like any other toy they need to put it up cause it can rust and the wood is not weather treated because they wanted the Radio Flyer to be safe and free of harmful chemicals and are not made for hanging all over they are to keep things from falling out and for your kids to hold onto if they are going to ride in it.
The paint job was perfect no flaws but will have to see in time if it lasts.
Radio Flyer company if you don't know is in Chicago, IL. but yes the wagon is made in china like everything else these days, lol.
That is the only downside, wish they where still being built in Chicago.
I still believe you can't go wrong with the tried and true Radio Flyer, great toy and utility wagon.

Features full-sized all-steel seamless body with no-scratch edges, extra-long handle that folds under and steel wheels with semi-pneumatic rubber tires. Body measures 36" x 17.5" 9.5".Radio Flyer's answer to the SUV, this standard red wagon (32 by 13.5 inches internally) comes with a set of wooden extender rails that attach to the metal body with 10 bolts, more than doubling the effective capacity. (With the rail, it has a depth of over 9 inches.) Note, however, that the rails are .25-inch stock--too weak to withstand heavy loads like rocks or firewood.
