Toys and Games Reviews of Radio Flyer My 1st Scooter RedCustomer Review: Excellent scooter for a 4th birthday gift! Summary: 5 Stars
I gave this to my youngest son after he watched his older siblings on a regular two wheeled scooter. The time it took from removing from the package to usage and familiarity was the time it took to carry it down the front steps and on to the driveway. Any child who has seen or attempeted a two wheel scooted will be able to use this instantly.
The product is solidly built, the only possible weak spot would be the fold down hinge for the handle. This is how it is shipped and it also comes in handy for taking it elsewhere (It has been to the playground, tennis courts, baseball field, parking lot, basically anywhere with a semi flat surface).
One caution: The three wheel design does give our son more confidence to go faster so the crashes, when they happen, are more spectacular. Buy some extra Band-aids.
Customer Review: Radio Flyer Scooter Summary: 3 Stars
We bought this scooter for our second born, who was really in to but too small for his big brother's Razor scooter. I had a hard time finding a three wheeled scoooter at this price. While he's too small to ride it by himself, the scooter's wide platform makes a great area for him to stand on while we push him. I wish the shaft of the handle bars was adjustable. Another thing that would be better is if the turning base was narrower. It makes really wide turns so it can be hard to maneuver in smaller spaces. I like that the handle folds down so we can easily pack it to ther park or for a car trip. The scooter is pretty much all plastic-- I thought for a Radio Flyer product it would have more metal in its construction. I guess that's one reason why it's half the price of the metal scooters we have at preschool.
Customer Review: Breaks easily! Summary: 2 Stars
Radio Flyer My First Scooter
We had this for about a month and had a hard time at first figuring out how to fold the scooter. After several efforts, the bar with handles started to loosen and would bend forward slightly when our 2 yr. old tried to push himself on it, making it pretty unstable.
Next he overturned it, stood on the bar and managed to break off one plastic handle bar completely! This product is cheap plastic and I wish we had bought him one that actually used metal. We ended up tossing the whole thing because we could never glue the handle on right again, and with the bar not secure to the board, it made it a hazardous trap. Stick with metal scooters, especially for first time users!
Customer Review: We love this scooter Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this for my 19-month old daughter, who thinks she's a 4 yr old boy like her brother. We had to get her a scooter so there would be less fighting over my son's scooter. I have looked high and low for a great beginner scooter. My son's scooter is awesome, but for reasons unknown, was discontinued. So the search has taken me some time.
I am so glad I waited until I found this scooter. It is great for a beginner. It has the 2 wheels in front, which really makes it more stable than other scooters; has the extra wide base and it folds in half for easy travel.
My daughter and my son both love to ride it.
Our only complaint is that it does not have the back brake like my son's scooter. But I would still recommend this over any of the other scooters out there.
Customer Review: All plastic! Summary: 3 Stars
My 5-year-old son just got a Razor scooter for his graduation from Kindergarten and my 3-year-old desperately wants one to be just like his older brother. This Radio Flyer is very cute but I am disappointed that unlike his older brother's metal Razor scooter, this one is all plastic! The front wheels are also pretty cumbersome to allow for fast turning and speed. Lastly, the T-bar is not adjustable and seems to be too tall for my average-size 36 pound 3-year-old.
It's a good first scooter with the large platform (be careful to tell your kids to step on the white Radio Flyer logo on the platform to avoid any tipping) and the 3 stable wheels. However, the lack of speed and large turning radius may become frustrating once a child learns how to use the scooter and wants to go faster.
