Toys and Games Reviews of Radio Flyer My 1st Scooter Red

Customer Review: Safe, and a hit from the start
Summary: 5 Stars

My 4yo daughter got this for Christmas (so two weeks ago). I had asked some friends how to choose a three-wheel scooter, and one friend pointed out that having one configured to have two wheels at the front and one at the back was easier for the kids to use. His point was that the ones with two wheels in rear get in the way of kids kicking back to make the thing move forward. Instead, having one wheel in rear leats kids learn how to position their feet to scoot. That was excellent advice. This was the only one I found in that configuration, and I haven't always had good experiences with Radio Flyer products, but this one has been great. The height was right fromt the get-go. The base is nice and wide so my daughter doesn't have to struggle with balancing her feet. It is sturdy, not too heavy and not too light, so she doesn't go flying, but gets enough speed to be happy. Almost no assembly either--just unfold the front bar up, and off you go!

Customer Review: Great first scooter and Safe
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband bought this scooter for my daughter who will soon be two after seeing how much she wanted to ride the neighbor kids' razors. My daughter jumped up and down with joy after seeing the toy. As soon as she got on she knew what to do. This toy is so SAFE, in comparison to any other competition! The base for the foot is almost a foot wide. Also the two wheels in front help balance our child more so than the two wheel in back ones. It is also fun for her to sit down on the center portion and us to pull her around on it. It is made out of the same plastic material as the RadioFLyer wagons, so it is really durable. It did not break when I stood on it and I weigh 140. I am pretty sure it is not cleared for that heavy of a person..but I had to try it. Overall GREAT toy! Safer than a Trike too, since she is not having to climb over the middle section..she just steps off.

Customer Review: Great Beginner Scooter
Summary: 5 Stars

This scooter is a great first scooter. Every time my daughter saw the older kids out on their scooters at the playground, she would follow them around and want to take a ride. So a few months after she turned 2, I started looking for a beginner scotter and found this one. She LOVES it! She knew exactly what to do and after only being on it 3x she rode on it for 1/2 a mile with me walking behind her. That's a long scooter ride for a little one! The scooter doesn't seem to glide very far without needing to push off, but that is ok, since at this age a lot of the challenge is learning to keep one foot steady while using that other foot to push and to just balance with that without necessarily having to glide or steer that well. We found the scooter for less money at Toys R Us, and then even cheaper at Walmart. They also have a pink one at both retail locations.

Customer Review: great for beginners
Summary: 5 Stars

got this for our 3 year old. it's GREAT for a first scooter. I was disappointed at first because it doesn't make very sharp turns. My daughter felt limited by that as well at first but after using it now for a few months...in my opinion it's much safer for a beginner to have it only be able to turn a little...provides more control for the child. The scooter goes about as fast as the user makes it go...it doesn't seem to ever get away from my child. It does go fast enough that it's fun...it's not too slow...for a beginner anyway. It's not a slick fold down. I need both hands to get it down but I don't mind that. It's a nice feature being able to stow it away in the stroller with my other child or just carry it if needed. The base is nice and wide. Definitely recommend for the first scooter. I'm guessing this will probably be good for my kid until she's 5 or 6.

Customer Review: Looks good but difficult to steer, too wide
Summary: 1 Stars

Do you have an active 2-year old? Then do not buy this scooter. Our son loves to scoot - on other kids' scooters but not this one. It looks cute, but the design is very poor. 1) It is too wide for a little kid (I thought that its width would make it more stable but he just hits his scooting foot on it), 2) It barely turns corners. You need to have a lot of room to make a turn and definitely can't do a right angle on a side walk, which actually makes it somewhat unsafe because it can fall over if he is trying to make a quick turn. It's durable, but we need to get him another one with a better design because this one is just not very functional for a little kid. Particularly for the price and Radio Flyer brand, we are very disappointed and will probably not purchase any more Radio Flyer products, no matter how cute they look. I would really like a refund.
