Customer Review: Durability issue for me, Nostalgia won on this purchase
Summary: 3 Stars
We purchased this for our 5 year old for Christmas this past year. I'll be honest, I didn't know what to buy him, he hadn't expressed an interest in anything yet. My husband saw this and said, oh a big wheel. We reminisced over how we both used to LOVE our "Big Wheels" and I purchased this thinking my son would LOVe it.
Pros:
1. adjustable seat. The grey seat has a few different positions to snap the seat down in thus letting the toy grow with your child. If he's young, simple snap in the first position so his feet will reach the pedals.
2. nostalgia factor: close to the "Big wheel" they used to sell back in the day. Everyone remembers those.
Cons:
1. Durability. I was also not impressed with the way the flag is put on the vehicle. You screw 3 screws into a black plastic piece to attach the long flag. Well, the first thing my 2 year old did was rip the flag out of the plastic. Plastic broke and now there's no way to reattach the most significant part of this toy, the all recognizable flag.
2. Age Recommendations off. I read somewhere that the age recommendations were 3-7. I would say 5 is the oldest that a child would play with this toy. My son is 5 and he doesn't love it. Every child is different, of course. He already has a bicycle and I think he prefers riding "higher" versus on the ground like a big wheel sits. My two year old sits on it and of course, can't reach the pedals but likes to pretend on it.
3. Hard to pedal. According to my son, it's hard to pedal. I don't know that to be true. He's talking about when he pedals on concrete and the wheel skips a bit. We actually used to call this "burning out." The front wheel spins around and you don't move. You know you remember... lol
