Customer Review: Broken after an hour, but my son loves it too much to return!

I bought this microphone, understanding full-well from the Amazon.com reviews that it was not a durable toy.
My son was delighted to open this microphone during his 2nd birthday party. We let him take it out of the box, and he had quite an audience for his first few performances. Within an hour, the microphone no longer projected any sound. Within two hours, the buttons on the base were broken and were making terrible choppy noises when he pressed them. I know that this toy didn't take any abuse, because a room full of adults watched him play with it the entire time.
That being said, my son is crazy about having a stand for his microphone. He loves this toy. We've decided not to send it back. I'm sure the replacement would break just as quickly, and there doesn't seem to be a well-made competing product on the market.

I was a little skeptical to buy this product after reading some of the reviews. This was purcahsed as a Christmas gift for my 5 yr old aspiring rock star. What a blast this toy is! By the end of the day, the whole family was playing American Idol, and I have some of the best memories on video that I have ever captured! We had no problems with this products functionality or durability, and, 2 months later, is still providing my son & his friends hours of enjoyment. I would really recommend this for any family. It promotes a lot of creativity as there are so many different ways to have fun with it. We even made our own band, & got the little ones involved with spoons & pots & pans!
So GLAD I bought this & you will be too!

This was a wonderful toy for my 7 year old granddaughter who loves to sing, but after one day the microphone would not work unless you held the cord into the base, not a fun pose for a budding rock star! I had read that the microphone connection was a problem from another reviewer, but chose to ignore it - wish I hadn't! I purchased this toy microphone for my nephew's 4th birthday because he wants to quote, "be a rockstar." Not only did he like it, but so did the other children who attended his party. The adjustable stand works great & was a big hit, along with the drum & applause pedals. However, the sound quality coming from the microphone was not very good at all. It's a good thing that when you're 4 you have an imagination and these things do not bother you, because I know it disappointed me. Purchased this for my 3.5 yr old daughter for Christmas, and it has turned out to be one of her favorite Christmas toys. She quickly learned how to operate it, and has a blast hearing herself. The sound quality is good. The volume is sufficient and doesn't distort the speaker even at the highest setting. The base is heavy enough that it doesn't tip over easy. My only suggestion for improvement would be to make the cord a bit longer....she likes to dance while singing, and can't get too far away.
