Toys and Games Reviews of Zathura; Adventure is Waiting

Customer Review: Our family loves this game
Summary: 4 Stars

My kids love the film and once they saw that there was a game version available they had to have it. I read some scathing reviews, but bought the game anyway as my kids were relentless in their desire to play it. After reading the negative reviews and then playing the game, I felt compelled to submit a positive review. The box says that the game is for seven year olds and older, but my five year old son just loves it and he wants to play all the time. In fact, he is learning to read better as he takes his orders from the game.

I have to admit that the game instructions are a bit weak, but the overall package is worth the investment. The box looks like the one in the movie; the game board is laid out exactly like the board in the game, except the game is printed on a standard game board, not pressed tin. The cards eject just like the film. This game is one for those who love the movie.

When we play the game we pretend that our house is really traveling through space and that pieces of our house are getting destroyed by Zorgons. It is one the few games that my wife and I have been adamant about to our children not to lose any pieces.

Customer Review: OK...seriously...WHAT...THE...HECK???????
Summary: 1 Stars

OK...I rarely write reviews, but after playing this game with my six year old son three or four times now, I just HAD to add my "two cents". I have never seen such a ridiculous game in my life. This is simply someone's vain attempt to make more money off of the movie with absolutely no attention to whether or not the game a)works b) makes any sense at all and c) has even the slightest point.

If I went through all of the questions that we have after reading the directions 100 times (there are so many gray areas), I'd take up too much space. Suffice it to say that it is simply a joke how little time went into planning this game. PLEASE do not waste your money! Its only redeeming quality (and the reason for two stars on how fun it is) is that my son and I have literally laughed our way through the game as it occurs to us just how ridiculous it is. (That said, the little button thingy for the card ejection is, admittedly, sort of addictive, but NOT worth the cost of the game.)

Customer Review: not a bad game, actually
Summary: 3 Stars

Even after reading all the bad reviews for this game, I had to get it for my 4yr old son, as Zathura is one of his favorite movies. I wasn't expexcting much, but the game is actually a fair representation of the one in the film, which makes me think people buying this haven't seen the movie. It's pretty low tech, vs the metal, chain and gear driven one onscreen - which is too bad - but then something like that would have run into 100s of dollars. The 'automatic' card dispenser is fun, but is pretty finicky - if there's any bend to the card they will jam. But otherwise it's a nice, fun game my kids enjoy very much that is pretty easy to play and doesn't take very long. A benefit=they'd rather play the game than watch tv, so I'm happy. I got it on sale and feel it's a pretty good deal. Now, if they'd just start making that robot toy again, I'd be really happy! (you can't even get it on ebay),

Customer Review: The Pro's and Con's.
Summary: 3 Stars

My five year old LOVES the Zathura movie, so I thought I would be the hero Dad and buy this for Christmas...

CONS:
1. Does NOT look like the game in the movie
2. Some assembly required, putting stickers on that peal off.
3. The button ejects a card about 50% of the time, spinning Zathura at the end.
4. A lack of detailed game rules.
5. Cheap 'made in china' product.

PROS:
1. Winding and pushing the button like the movie.
2. My boy loves it and wants to play it over and over again
3. Encourages reading, counting and taking turns
4. The Cards look great
5. Love the robot.

VERDICT: While I wish they would have made a closer replica to the movie's game and thought the game play through a little bit more, the game is loved by my boy and that's why I bought it.

Customer Review: what.....the....heck??????
Summary: 1 Stars

I was excited to buy this game and start my intergalactic adventure!

I set it all up and pressed the buttton and my first card popped out and my adventure had begun!

the card said "you discover wormhole;advance 4 spaces"

i was soooo excited!!! I was ready for that wormhole!!!! I stood there, prepared for that wormhole....but it never came.....I run to the door, opened it and I WASAN'T IN SPACE!!!!!

I thought this game took you to space!!!!

Is mine broken or something?? Are ALL the games broken??

Does it not really take you to space? Is it JUST a board Game?

See you (and your house) in space!
