Toys and Games Reviews of Scooby-Doo! Haunted House GameCustomer Review: Don't Waste Your Money Summary: 1 Stars
First off, my 5 year old son seems to like the game at least the 1st time we played and wants to play it again. For the money, I was expecting a better quality game. This is one purchase I really regret. I would return it for another game, but, I don't want to break my 5 year old's heart since he is a HUGE Scooby fan.
CONS:
The directions are non-existent as previously mentioned. It took well over an hour to put together.
The pieces were hard to attach.
It doesn't fit back in the box. It needs to be re-assembled every time by "an adult" (stated on the directions). Therefore, we put it in a bigger box since re-assembling the game will result in the pieces being ruined after a few times.
We're still trying to figure out the spinner. When attached, it won't spin or it falls apart.
Pressman Toys website is horrible as well, When I tried to go through their email contacts to find out what to do about the spinner, I got an error when I submitted. Now, I will have to find the time to call. Next game I buy will definitely not be a Pressman Toys Game!
Customer Review: Great game for the Scooby fan Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for my 4-year old son, a die-hard Scooby fan. We had a great time playing the game and is one of his favorites.
The CONS
- assembly instructions may as well be left out of the directions as here's a toy with a lot of pieces with instructions in one tiny tiny pictures. In any case, not too difficult to figure out using the pictures on the box
- While the mansion itself is fairly sturdy, the pieces not so much. When the ghost on the top is pushed (to release the traps), need to be careful to push slowly or you'll knock all the pieces off the board.
- Have to dissassemmble the gamne to get it back into the box. This is true of most games but assembly of this one takes a bit longer.
The PROS
- Very cute 3-D game. Traps work well
- Game is fairly straight forward and quick. Nothing worse than getting into a game with a little one that takes too long :)
- Good for little ones learning counting. They can spin the spinner and count the steps.
- Each push of the ghost releases different traps so the kids never know exactly what will happen next
Customer Review: Great for kids, horrible for parents! Summary: 2 Stars
My daughter has been wanting this game for a long time. I read the reviews and saw how everyone was complaining about it, but she LOVES Scooby, so I thought it was worth a try. We got it out today and it is a nightmare to put together! I think the biggest problem is the directions. It is one sheet of paper in black and white with tiny pictures. You can't really tell how things are supposed to go together. Instead I looked at the box and tried to put it together that way. Things don't seem to stay in place very well (especially these two little statues) I don't see that I could ever put it back in the box, it's too much work to put together! Luckily, my daughter has a scooby doo themed room, so I can just leave it up.
The gameplay is fun. She really liked it when people got caught in the cage. This game is a lot like mousetrap. It's a lot of work to setup with not too much gameplay. If your child really likes Scooby, they will probably like this game (even if they just play with it as a castle and not play the actual game) but be prepared as a parent to get really frustrated putting it together!
Customer Review: Fun 3-D game! Summary: 5 Stars
My kids both wanted this game after seeing it listed in the back of some of their Scooby Doo books. I looked at some of the other reviews, and was hesitant in ordering it for them for Christmas. Some of the reviews stated that the house itself is a little unstudy, so I thought for sure it was going to be cheaply made. I went ahead and ordered anyway...figured, everyone has their own opinion about things, maybe it's not that filmsy. Well, glad that I did order it. My two small kids (3 and 5) LOVE this game. Yes, you will have to invest some time in putting it together and yes, the instructions are not the best...but once it is together, it looks awesome! The staircase is wobbly, but only because it's supposed to be set up as a "booby trap". I have to help the kids move their pawns around the board because there isn't a lot of room to move around, things tend to get knocked over, etc. But the look on my kids's faces when we set it up and started playing was priceless. It is a super fun and quick game to play with any kid that loves Scoody Doo and the gang!
Customer Review: Lack of durability is upsetting Summary: 1 Stars
Although the Scooby-Doo board game was fun initially, it quickly lost its appeal when we soon realized that the pieces don't hold together that well at all. The back walls come loose and fall down constantly as do the snake stairs. It's nearly impossible to get past the snake stairs because almost every time you get on them, you have to press the ghost down and then you fall off them. The snake stairs also come apart from the frame of the game and you have to try to assemble them again. We decided to keep it together all the time instead of disassembling it and putting it back in the box every time we were done with it, but that didn't prevent us from having to assemble it each time we wanted to play with it and having to assemble it several times during the game as well.
All in all, very poor quality and craftsmanship and just an annoyance to play. The bother far outweighs the educational and entertainment benefits.
