Toys and Games Reviews of Rummikub

Customer Review: Great Game for the Entire Family
Summary: 5 Stars

This game is deceptively simple. You start with 14 tiles, and your goal is to meld all your tiles in groups of at least three, either three of a kind (3 fives, for example) or in a run (4, 5, and 6). Just like the card game rummy, right? The twist comes when you start rearranging tiles. As long as you leave at least three tiles together, you can do whatever you want with the tiles already laid down by any person playing the game. Before too long, strategy becomes hard because the person before you is sure to rearrange the tiles you needed in such a way that they are no longer available. Then again, they may lay down the one piece that you needed to win.

I've been playing this game with my family for years. It's a blast because it's so completely different every time, and everyone has a chance to win. You might need to help small kids when they first learn how to play, but soon, they will be able to play and hold their own against adults.

I highly recommend this fun game. It'll give you hours of entertainment with family and friends.

Customer Review: Great For Old and Young, Fun and Challenging, Our First Game Lasted Over 40 Minutes
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a recent birthday gift for my 9 year old and 6 year old from their "Aunt LaLa". I've read the glowing reviews and I have to agree with them, this game is great fun for old and young alike.

The only complaint I have is that the directions are very poorly written. They are written as if you already know how to play the game, which was not as helpful as I would have liked. But we had fun playing anyway.

After playing twice and not quite understanding how to split up the tiles that had been place on the table we re-read the directions and picked up on the more complicated rules. I think it was better for us to progress slowly to the more complicated rules of the game, so not understanding everything all at once worked to our benefit.

Overall a clever and fun game that I think anyone would enjoy.

Customer Review: Good brain exercise
Summary: 5 Stars

Rummikub is a durable plastic tile game that is fun but also good training for the brain. You can play with just two people or several people. The rules are similar to rummy plus you have to be able to visualize number combinations and color combinations as well as how to play certain tiles to gain points. At first, I didn't think much of the game until I played with a friend who has been playing for years. To watch her rearrange 8,9,10 tiles at a time in order to play her tiles was truly amazing.
The product design is simple, which I like, and easy to setup and put away. The one slight drawback are the colors - the black and blue are hard to tell apart. If you don't have youthful vision make sure you play with good lighting. Not a big problem but it would be nice to have more distinct colors. Overall a very enjoyable game.

Customer Review: GREAT GAME, average craftsmanship.
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great game. My parents introduced me to this game and now our entire family is hooked. Though luck does play a small part, it is mostly strategy. It is relatively easy to learn and very addictive once you get a hang of it. The best part is, it doesn't get boring and evolves as you become a better player.

This particular version however is not one I would recommend. If you plan on playing it a lot I would suggest spending a few dollars more and buying the deluxe version. I bought this one for my grandparents and they have a hard time identifying the colors, which is a very important aspect of the game. The holders for the bones are also inexpensively made and collapse if you are not very careful.

Good buy for adult players, not so good for younger or older players.

Customer Review: From the Board Games Editor at BellaOnline.com
Summary: 5 Stars

Rummikub is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year! Celebrate by grabbing a set and enjoying a game with your family. It plays out pretty much like Rummy with cards, so it won't be a tricky game to learn, and you can even modify the rules to suit your favorite type of rummy (we like to play Gin Rummikub). This is a relatively easy game, most kids who have good counting skills are more than capable of playing it.

One great feature about this game is that many elderly people love to play cards, but due to arthritis or poor vision, have trouble doing so. Rummikub solves that problem; the writing on the tiles is large and the tiles are easy to pick up and put down. Why not buy one for your family and buy an extra to donate to your local nursing home? The game is certainly a reasonable value!
