Toys and Games Reviews of Mastermind

Customer Review: I owe my mind to this game
Summary: 4 Stars

Like many other reviewers, I grew up on this game. The logic skills that this game teaches are invaluable. I would even dare say that I feel like I owe some of the skills I employ daily in school to the stratagies this game requires.

I worked at a toy store for a while. Everyone who asked me to suggest an eduactional game was taken directly to this classic.

My only gripe with this new version is the peg compartment. It is completely useless, and I am inclined (as other reviewers) to suggest keeping the pegs in one or two ziplock bags. The compartment is too small to close with all the pegs inside. And the seperator doesn't hold up to its purpose, the small and large pegs inevidably get mixed up. But, it is nice to have all the pegs available when playing. Just don't count on the compartment to keep the pegs from ending up all over the inside of the box everytime you dig the game out of the closet.

Customer Review: Great Game, horrible Quality
Summary: 4 Stars

Played this game many times, it really does make you think hard to win, and playing logic games are really important for people of all ages I think.

There are a couple of things wrong with this though.

The box is comes in is very very flimsy. Top of the gaming shelf for sure.
You can keep all the pieces inside its Trap door though, Unfortunately you have to mix the Guess Pegs with the scoring pegs to do so. There is a divider between the game pegs and the scoring pegs, but it doesn't do a very good job of dividing.

Many of the scoring pegs are too big to fit in the scoring holes. I Had to keep a pair of pliers near me while playing in order to try and squeeze the plastic on them to fit in the holes.

Its all made of hard plastic so it will last forever as long as you don't loose the pieces, but the Quality control and storage design cut a lot of corners

Customer Review: Truly a game that spans generations
Summary: 5 Stars

This game has such a wide range of age appropriateness. I started playing it against my parents when I was in my early teens, and we loved it. My younger sister, probably seven or so, was jealous of how much we loved the game and taught herself the rules through observation. Soon she was able to beat the rest of us at our own game! If someone is interested in the kind of logic and systematic deductive approach required to play Mastermind, it can be enjoying by someone of any age.

I would recommend this game for people who have grown out of simpler games such as Connect Four.

This is a great game for grandparents to play with younger people, because the older person doesn't have to "dumb down" their technique to play a kids game. It exercises your brain without having any overt educational tone. Everyone can benefit from some good Mastermind strategy practice!

Customer Review: Mastermind Mayhem!!
Summary: 4 Stars

Mastermind. Just the title brings back memories!! This is a classic game that everyone can play. The object of the game is to guess what the other person's combonation of colorful pegs are. White small pags mean right color, wrong space, and red small pegs signify that there is a correct color, correct sace in the combonation you just tested--but which one is correct?? Mastermind is really easy to learn and play, but it isn't as easy to win as it sounds. It is a really fun game for two players or teams, and will result in hours of fu. But sometimes, Mastermind does get a bit frustrating and tedious. But overall, it is a wonderful game and I would recommend it. On an overall scale of 1 to 10 (one being the worst and ten being the best) I would give Mastermind a 7.

Mastermind. Minutes to learn, years to master.

Customer Review: Great game, cheap model
Summary: 3 Stars

Mastermind is a great strategy game; my wife and I really enjoy playing it. Unfortunately, this particular model of the game is made very cheaply. The base was a very thin plastic that was warped upon arrival, but not unusable. The flimsy covers for the code and pegs feel like they will break very easily. The section to store all the pegs isn't even big enough to fit all the pegs in. Also, we aren't huge fans of the peg colors. These pegs are neon pink, neon orange, white, purple, yellow, and neon green. Not very easy on the eyes.

Aside from the nitpicking on this being a very cheaply made product, the game is still very functional and we will enjoy the hours of use we can get out of it. It's a good purchase if you're just looking to get a good game to play between two friends or family members.
