I wish the product description for this would have stated that the "lightning" is simply an LED light pointed onto clear plastic molded like lightning. When I bought this, I thought that it would use some sort of static charge to look like actual lightning. What a disappointment -- flashing blue LEDs on molded plastic. There are a few buttons you can press to play sounds of rain and/or thunder. Not very exciting or educational. The toy comes with an insert that talks about lightning, so I guess that is the educational part. As for my 5-year-old and 7-year-old, they couldn't care less about the paper insert, and they are bored by a couple of flashing blue lights.
