Toys and Games Reviews of Pokemon Trading Card Game Diamond & Pearl Trainers Kit 2-player Starter Deck SetCustomer Review: Great way to start into Pokemon, but still leaves us with questions Summary: 4 Stars
My son and I love this starter set. We've played a few times. However, now we're ready to start adding to the set with boosters. I've purchased some boosters, but they don't seem to come with energy cards, which are essential to the gameplay!
This starter set gives you some Water and Punch energy cards, which are great to start with and fit just fine with the starting mini-decks of this set, but that leaves more than half the booster cards we've purchased un-useable because they're of a different type. And the instructions don't really explain anything beyond basic gameplay. I was hoping that a starter kit like this would at least answer beginner questions like "how do I expand my deck?", "how do I play with other types of cards", "should I focus on a specific energy type, or what?" etc.
I'll probably have to end up doing research online or finding a book we can study to figure the rest of the game out. Or go to one of those meet-ups, I guess...
Customer Review: Great for Beginners Summary: 4 Stars
My brother and I bought this deck, hoping to learn what Pokemon is about and how to play it. This is a great stepping stone for beginners. We went from knowing almost nothing to getting a great start on our collection. We had no idea what series the booster came from at the time since it was EX, but now we know that it was from EX Dragon Frontiers. In the Manaphy deck you get the following Pokemon: Manaphy, Goldeen, Seaking, Buizel, Floatzel, Piplup, Tododile, and Prinplup. In the Lucario deck you get the following: Lucario, Riolu, Gravler, Geodude, Machop, Machoke, and Starly. You of course get multiple copies of some of the Pokemon for better gameplay. These decks are really great starter decks, except for the fact that the Manaphy one is more powerful. Here's a helpful tip, if you don't have the necessary energy for your other Pokemon, in the early battles you can make each energy provide on of any energy. Don't do this at events! Overall, this is a great buy!
Customer Review: repackaged and extra booster pack was opened. Summary: 2 Stars
Well, I have been wanting to teach my son how to play the Pokemon card game for some time now. I thought I would order this training set so that we could learn to play over his summer break. I think the product overall is great but, it seem like everything was opened and then put back in the package. Even the extra 9 cards in the origianal package was cut and opened at the top. I will never order from ABCTOY4ME again. If you would like to buy this item please, make sure you order it from a different store. It sucks to know that there are people out there still trying to take advantage of kids and unaware parents. I will not be sending these cards back due to the fact that my son had to wait a week to get them and damn near pissed himself when it got here. I would pay close attention to any items you order from ABCTOY4ME.
Customer Review: Confused Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered this starter set for my 7 y/o who is just getting into Pokemon Trading Cards. I thought we'd both learn how to play the game. I was confused, upset, and frustrated (& worse) when I discovered that one of the two decks had English text and one German (at least I think it's German) text. There was no option to specify the language of the cards so I assumed (I think naturally) that I was getting an English language product. I am trying for a exchange but . . .
Customer Review: Everything my daughter wanted Summary: 4 Stars
This set is complete and has everything a kid needs to play REAL pokemon. I was amazed to see how many kids who have been avid pokemon traders for years, had never seen the complete set including rule book, damage markers ans the like. Most kids didn't realize just how the game was intended to be played.
