Toys and Games Reviews of Music & Lights Sit 'n Spin: Rockin' Tunes

Customer Review: The original was better...
Summary: 3 Stars

My 22 month old son likes it, although he has trouble spinning himself sometimes. But that's ok, I know it will be easier when he's older.
The problem I have is that they've changed it. The original, which I believe came out in the early 70's, was very sturdy and was quiet- no flashing lights and annoying music (heaven forbid in this day and age).
This one is flimsy, the handle practically bends over every time he trys to spin himself, which I think is part of the reason it's hard for him to use. I'm just waiting for it to break off.
And the music, ugh....what a disaster. I was hoping that it wouldn't be as bad as it is, but it's worse than expected.
It's suppose to be fun and resemble old rock-n-roll tunes. Not the case. They're horrid. Lucky for me I put the batteries in and tested it while my son was taking a nap. I quickly removed them before he woke up, so he doesn't even know it's suppose to make noise. I wish it was like the old one. I'm very disappoined with the new version.

Customer Review: LOUD, obnoxious, easy 2 fall when stepped on, easy spills
Summary: 1 Stars

The classic sit 'n spin was so wonderful! PLEASE TRY THIS IN THE STORE BEFORE YOU BUY! Don't be fooled, as we were, into thinking the 'music' was not too loud. We tried the music in the store (TRUs) before buying, but discovered, when in use at home, that a toy store environment must be very loud. In addition to the VERY loud, obnoxious music (even our 3-yr. old daughter still covers her ears, and that's with clear packing tape over the speaker), it is very, very easy for children to fall when they step on this toy (and that's the 1st way they usually try to get on it). As a consequence, VERY CLOSE SUPERVISION is needed for playdates and children under the age of 5. Children also tend to lean backward while trying to use arms to spin, and this often results in the SNSpin toppling over. Our child's lighweight (3 yrs., 30 lbs.), but heavier friends have experienced the same high-risk issue. BUY IT WITHOUT THE MUSIC, if you can find it.

Customer Review: It's more than just a sitting and spinning toy!
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter is just 12 months old and she is a big, active girl for her age. She received this toy for Christmas, she was 11 months at the time - it was the hot item of the day! She is just figuring out the sitting and spinning part but since she got this toy she has figured out several other fun things to do with it. She stands on it and dances to the music, sits next to it and spins the base, with and without other toys on it, tips it on it's side to hide behind it and drapes herself over the center handle to fly. I always have to consider durability when I buy her toys and so far this one is holding up well, although I don't think she'll be able to "fly" on it in another year. I knew when I first saw this toy that it would be something she would like, even though it states for 18mos. - 6 years, sometimes you just have to go with your instincts (provided safety isn't a negating factor).

Customer Review: Where did the fun go?
Summary: 1 Stars

Today's Sit-N-Spins are nearly half the size they were when I was a kid--and it's not just because I got bigger that it looks smaller. My son got one for his second birthday, and he is too big for it! He is not overweight, he is within normal height range for his age group. The base is not wide enough--there is not enough room between the handle base and the edge of the seat for him to sit without rubbing against the handle, or falling off the edge of the seat. His feet dangle off the opposite end--when he crosses his feet to sit, it works for a few turns; still, he comes in contact with the handle base and it stops while he is still trying to spin.

I'm very disappointed with this, I thought it was a great toy, but they've ruined it by making it impossibly small. Now all he does is push the button for the music, or give his stuffed animals a ride on it. His birthday was only two weeks ago!

Customer Review: fantastic toy, but older version was sturdier (and bigger)
Summary: 4 Stars

My husband and I were so excited to give our 18 month old a sit n spin for Christmas. Growing up, we had both loved sit n spin! But, when we put the toy together we were somewhat dissapointed.

Is it just us, or did this toy get much smaller? Both of us thought the sit n spin shrunk. Also, it seemed much flimsier than I remember my blue sitnspin that I had back in the 80's. I remember using this toy as a much older child making me think it was bigger back then.

Overall this is still a great toy!! Our toddler is just getting the hang of it, but I know he'll be spinning on it for hours someday. I think the music is cute, and the batteries can always be removed if you don't like it.

The big dissapointment is the small size and flimsyness of the item! Our son barely fits on it. I think it cold get alot more use by kids (and adults!!!) if it was larger.
