Toys and Games Reviews of Music & Lights Sit 'n Spin: Rockin' TunesCustomer Review: Spinning the years away! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this toy for our oldest daughter when she was 2.5 years old. At first, she needed some help climbing on and spinning, but it was only a matter of a couple of hours before she could do it by herself.
Now, 2.5 years later, this is the best toy that we have EVER bought. My 5 year old STILL plays with it, and her little sister (now 2.5 years old) loves it too.
I noticed some people complain about how loud it is, but compared to other children's toys that we have, I would actually consider this to be quiet.
As far as durability goes, we haven't had any problems with it. Nothing cracked, broken - the stickers are even still intact. (For us, this is an inside toy!)
HINT: I would strongly recommend putting it together BEFORE your child sees it. While not difficult to assemble, it did seem to take my husband a while to put it together (but bear in mind, this was 2.5 years ago, my memory may be fuzzy!).
BIG PLUS: The batteries seem to last FOREVER! My children have played with this almost every day for 2.5 years, but we haven't replaced the batteries yet. Don't ask me how - I have no idea, but it's true.
One note, I think our version is slightly different than the version shown here. The base is yellow - but otherwise appears the same. The song selection may be slightly different also -- ours plays Rockin' Robin, Twinkle Twinkle, Polly Wolly Doodle, She'll be Comin' Round The Mountain, and two or three others that I don't know the name of.
This toy gets 8 thumbs up in our household - Mom, Dad, and both daughters approve full heartedly!
Customer Review: Fun for kids, headache for parents Summary: 5 Stars
This toy is good for keeping toddlers and preschoolers entertained (and out of other trouble) for a while, maybe 10-20 minutes at a time, more if used in conjunction with relatively wholesome TV/video. My two younger sons are 20 months and 3 years, and with Sesame St or Blues Clues on the idiot box, they can sit and spin long enough for me to have a few uninterrupted minutes of grownup mental time. But I have to offer parents this important caveat, those three little words that have escaped toy designers & manufacturers for so long: NO OFF SWITCH. To turn this critter off you must partially dismantle it, unscrew the battery housing and pull out the batts, and often this is just not an option. There is one and only one volume setting: loud. If overproduced mid-80s guitar pop - cf. riff & solo from Michael Jackson's "Beat It" or the Miami Vice theme song - is not your thing, try one of the other musical Sit'n'Spins (I believe there's a classical version). As my kids are a bunch of headbangers - they'd probably prefer a Black Flag or Motorhead S'n'S - they dig anything that goes loud and fast and makes them dizzy, and so I'm willing to risk bad flashbacks for the sake of their happiness. But be forewarned. Note: I rated durability at 4* only after a week's use. So far little Tank and Baby Kal-El haven't trashed theirs, but as we got two of them they haven't been subjected to the MINE! NO, MINE! test. Of course, the, uh, musical content may inspire me to test its durability from an upper floor window....
Customer Review: I think this toy is a bunch of crap & false advertisement Summary: 1 Stars
My son received this toy the other day on his 2nd birthday. I think I was more excited than he was about receiving it. I had always wanted to get him one, but never got around to it. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't waste my own money on this. What really gets me is that it says from 18 months to 5 years old. Yeah...RIIIIIIIIIGHT. There's no 18 month old that can understand the concept of how to turn this thing. It took me awhile to figure out why the wheel wasn't turning. Come to find out, it's like the teacup rides at Disney World. The wheel doesn't turn, everything else turns around it. Well I wish they had said that on the box rather than "Turn the wheel to start the spinning action". What a load of crap. Also, like I said, my son just turned 2. He's a big 2, but he's no bigger than a 4 or 5 year old. So there's no way that a 4 or 5 year old can get on this comfortably. I have to agree, the music IS annoying especially cause I had to disassemble it to get the music to stop. It really upsets me that I have to take this back to the store because I was so excited for my son when he opened his gift. This is definitely a toy that I would avoid buying if your kid is less than 2 & a half years old or over 4 years old. Oh wow, I guess then it would really only be good for 3 YEAR OLDS!!! WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY...PLEASE.

P.S. I only gave it one star because it wouldn't let me give it negative stars.
Customer Review: Could have been a 5 * but.... Summary: 1 Stars
I remember enjoying these as a kid and our family had one for years. When some gave us this one I thought it was pretty neat but WOAH is that music LOUD, there is no volumn control and while I'm not a prude and want only quiet toys, contrary, I want toys that will stimulate young minds so I don't mind noise but this thing IS LOUD! So I put some tape over the 2 speakers (LOOKS like there are 4 but music only comes from 2) I put tape over the speakers and wah-la just the right volume now.
But I read why people rated this negatively. And I am glad, I thought it was just my imagination---but it's TRUE, this must be smaller than the original version I grew up with. At 18 months I tried to help my daughter spin on it yet for her to sit on it her chest would rub the steering wheel.
By 2 she could spin it herself but would risk a tumble with each turn as she tried to balance herself on the small base and still manuever the steering wheel.
A big turnoff is portability. To pick this up and move it you have to hold the bottom end otherwise it falls off the handle, perhaps it was meant to screw in and ours is missing a screw?
Anyway, if someone wants to buy one cheap then I know where you can get one haha.
Customer Review: A bigger hit when I was 3.... Summary: 3 Stars
As I was thinking of what to get my (then) 3 year-old daughter for Christmas last year, I recalled all the toys I had when I was her age. I remembered the hours of enjoyment I had with my Sit N Spin and thought it would be nice if I could get one for her. I didn't expect them to be around anymore, but I was mistaken. And now they have lights and music! Man, now I feel jipped.Perhaps it's the fact that kids (yes, even mine) get everything they want these days, but I remember making things up to do with my Sit N Spin (on it's side, race car driver was my fave). I must have had fewer toys to play with. My youngster enjoyed the toy for about a week, then grew tired of it. Even the lights and music couldn't hold her interest. She would play the songs without even spinning on it, which sort of defeated the purpose of buying the toy. The toy remains as durable as I remember, taking beating after beating of having other toys thrown on it. And you know every kid is going to try to sit on the top of the thing at least once. Overall, I think I enjoyed watching her play on the Sit N Spin more than she enjoyed it. Must have been the nostalgic memories. I recommend this toy for children under 3, as older kids want a bit more interaction these days.
