Customer Review: My Son LOVES Playmobil! (Not sure about the gun in this set, though.)

My son loves Playmobil almost as much as I do. I think I have more fun playing with them than he does!
Included is the police helicopter as well as a bad-guy jet skier. This particular Playmobil set was relatively easy to put together compared to some of the other sets we own. It is made with the same quality Playmobil is known for -- Well designed and lots of cool details, however we found that the windshield pops off easily when the copter "crashes". The jet ski includes a weight to keep it upright when playing with the toy in water, however, we remove it when playing with it out of the tub so that the jet ski will sit upright.
Normally I would have given this toy five stars instead of four. It loses the extra star not because of the quaility of the toy, but because I'm a bit uncomfortable with the HUGE shotgun included and the stereotypical cool looking bad guy. Immediately after putting the toy together, my son started shouting, making gun noises and saying that the bad guy was "DEAD!" Perhaps this shouldn't bother me, but I don't like my innocent four year old thinking about killing people and guns even if it is the "good guys" vs the "bad guys". In hindsight, I would probably have removed the gun before giving it to him. I think Police can do their job in pretend play without a gun.
As for the "bad guy", he is dressed in sunglasses, a flame t-shirt, stocking cap and has beard stubble on his face. I understand why he was designed this way, but I wish he was a little less "cool" looking. I think kids relate to these types of cool images and it might have been better to keep the bad guy looking more generic. The fact is that bad guys can look like anyone. Then again, maybe he can be the cool undercover cop.
I know I'm being a bit protective and that playing good guy/bad guy is part of growing up, but I think we will focus more on collecting the Rescue Playmobil sets and limit the Police sets. Well, OK... we HAVE to have the Police Car... but that is it. ;-)
A General Note About Playmobil:
My four year old loves Playmobil toys and spends hours playing with them in elaborate imaginative stories, but has some trouble putting the accessories in the little guys' hands or working some of the features. I don't mind helping him, since he enjoys them so much. I think these toys will be played with for years to come and eventually he will be able to play without assistance. I do not recommend them for under three since there are so many tiny pieces to swallow or lose. Speaking of small pieces, if you are not familiar with Playmobil, you will be amazed with the number of teeny tiny pieces that are included! This is part of what makes them so much fun! We always purchase one of those plastic tubs with a lid for each of our Playmobil sets in order to keep all of the pieces together. (If you are purchasing a Playmobil set as a gift, it would be a wonderful gift to the parents to also include one of these tubs.) My son is good about keeping all of the accessories together and picking them up. If your or your child is likely not to keep up with the little pieces, you might do well to purchase the Fisher Price Imaginext sets instead since they have fewer and larger pieces.
