Toys and Games Reviews of Playhut Crawl N PlayCustomer Review: Extremely Durable, Lots of Fun... Summary: 5 Stars
Santa brought this set for our daughter (now two) last year, and it has been a great toy. She has been very rough with it, but it has held up perfectly... She likes to jump against it and crush it flat, and also stand inside it and walk around the room with it balanced on her head... Of course she also likes to sit inside it and read books or play with small toys. We bought 100 plastic balls to go inside, but that was hard to keep tidy - they kept leaking out and are now reserved for rainy day play. I love how it folds absolutely FLAT (in two seconds!) for easy storage/transportation. It pops open in one second! It is also easily washable - just wipe clean. The tunnels attach easily with four velcro straps, but our daughter currently prefers them left unattached. She likes to roll the shorter tunnel around the room, or stand it on end and climb inside to play Pop-Up. The set that we, ahem "Santa", bought had two tents and two tunnels. The boxes were not clearly marked, and these were not all packaged together. We had the option of buying more pieces separately. They were very inexpensive! They have been worth twice what we paid for them, and I would buy the set again in a heartbeat. This is a GREAT, open-ended, imaginative toy that would provide many years of quiet/rowdy fun for any child.
Customer Review: Incredible toy, even for crawlers Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my 11 month old twins two months ago when I realized they love crawling underneath their exersaucers and our furniture. They get so excited when they crawl through the tunnels to get to the main compartment. They giggle and laugh, and can sit up in the tunnels with their heads touching the nylon top. I put toys inside of the hut and that's even more incentive for them to crawl inside. We have it in our kithen, and when one of the boys wants to go from one side of the kitchen to the next, they usually go out of their way to crawl through the playhut. I am amazed that the age range for this is 3-8. I think it is appropriate AND SAFE for much younger. It obviously is collapsable, so you don't really want your infant to use it to help him stand up. But otherwise, it's a perfect toy for little ones. Also, if you feel that your house is being overrun with toys, this is the simplest toy to twist and put away. If you want it out all the time, great, but if you don't you can put it away in 2 minutes. The designers at Playhut really knew what they were doing when they created this wonderful toy.
Customer Review: Fun, but not what it looks like Summary: 3 Stars
This hut, and the ones like it, are fun cube and tunnel structures. Overall, they are fun and light and easy to setup and take down. We use them to setup in a bedroom, then the living room, and so on to keep it fresh. They provide lots of incentive for crawling and ducking, and our two-year old loves to fill the cube with her stuffed animals.
The catch is that in the pictures they look like they are a little more sturdy than they actually are. Each piece folds down like those spring loaded car window shades, so while they stand up just fine, the do not support any weight or leaning at all. Second, each piece connects to the other with just 4 velcro strips and loops, so the pieces do not connect snugly to each other. They are just loosely held in place. This is ok, until someone gets caught on one.
Also, each tunnel or cube is fabric stitched around the spring loaded frame. Right out of the box, one of the stitching was already loose, and by the end of playing with them for one day, there were three or four. You'll be restitching these if you plan to keep them for long.
Customer Review: No problems - only fun! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this item for our son at Christmas, even though he was only nine months old. We're so glad we did! He has been a climber since he could crawl, and the tunnel/tent "hideout" just tickled him to no end!! We have had no problems with smells, bends, or tears, even with older children clambering through this. I, too, am surprised by the recommended age level (begins at age 3), but I do want to caution anyone purchasing this for a crawler: The large holes the tunnels attach to are only about 1" off the ground, so it's fairly easy for a young crawler to pass through them, but the side holes are a good 4" off the ground. A little one who tries to crawl through the side holes might not be able to lift his/her knee up high enough to clear the fabric. It was no problem for our son, who could probably climb anything in the house at that point (*LOL*), but it's worth mentioning. I doubt the baby would get hurt, but they would definitely drag the tent across the floor with them! Our son did but figured it out after a few tries. It's been great fun for us! We recommend it.
Customer Review: No fun for our little ones Summary: 2 Stars
I couldn't wait to buy this for our two toddlers. Not long after I popped it open (it is quite easy to set up, takes about 5 seconds) and attached the two tunnels, my kids were happily crawling through it. Then.......uh oh! With normal movement, the tunnels detached easily, the kids found it cramping to sit and play together under the dome, and they became frustrated that they couldn't freely crawl from one tunnel through the dome and out the other side of the second tunnel without getting their clothing and sneakers caught on the sides or on the velcro.
My kids are petite, and still they were clumsy inside. They gave up on it after 20 minutes and we just packed it up for return. I read the age guidelines and figured they'd be just fine, but aside from it folding easily and storing conveniently in a carry bag, this is not the oodles of fun that it's advertised to be. I'd recommend a play tent that does not feature attachable tunnels....they DETACH way too easily!
